Guest Deri Reed Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 take the circular rubber cover off and what the hell is that, is it for the areil to give it better siganl or what?
Guest Maverick Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Supposedly for some in-car handsfree kits where you can connect an external aerial. Even the original SPV has that.
Guest Deri Reed Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 so where can i buy this external areil from then, i live in the sticks so i wudnt mind one just for use in my house!
Guest m1.carson Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 You may find it's a diagnostic port, but anyway it's a very handy thingy, it stops the phone from crawling off the desk when it's in vibrate mode
Guest Deri Reed Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 yeh it is very good for that but does anyone know what it actually does and if it is for the ariel where do u get them from?
Guest shadamehr Posted November 29, 2003 Report Posted November 29, 2003 All earlier Nokia phones such as the 5110, 6110, 6210, and even my newer (relatively speaking) 6310i has this identical cap and plug underneath. On Nokias, they are for the standard full car kit, whereby when connected/placed in cradle, this connects to the car kit and the link to the external ariel. Hence how in a proper car kit (Nokias), the signal is much much better. So my assumption, having seen both, is that this is for exactly the same purpose on an SPV... A genuine car kit, to link to external arial.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 29, 2003 Report Posted November 29, 2003 It is for an external ariel and (should) be a standrd size. I do not know if the socket is the same size but RS Components sell external phone ariels these are advertised as desk top ariels. (Book 5 in the RS catalogue if I remember) Only downfall is that you need to have an account with RS to be able to buy from them.
Guest Maverick Posted November 29, 2003 Report Posted November 29, 2003 Will it affect the battery life if the external aerial is attached?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 It should not affect the battery life.
