i just don't understand

I'll get flamed for this- oh well!

Why are so many of you happy to accept a sub-standard e200? It's almost as if Orange has hypnotised many of you (over the air hypnosis  ?) to accept any product that falls within the smartphone category that they release.

At the highest bug level, many of you seem to ignore the fact that after 1 year of testing the SPV on us, they still have not fixed:

-Forgetful T9

-Dodgy GPRS

And in some instances, made things worse!!!

-SPEAKER BUZZING (the main reason why I returned my e200)

-Battery life

-4 way joypad

And then there are the other bugs:

-Incompatible SPV software

-B/T that seems to be only good at one thing; draining the battery!

I have highlighted the major bugs. There are many other bugs. just do an "e200 bug" search.

I know many of you will respond by saying that all bugs will be fixed with a future patch. But this is unacceptable. Let's not lose objectivity- We were sold a phone that currently does not do what it says on the tin!

And we know what Orange are like with updates. Will you still be happy with the buggy e200 4 to 5 months down the line with only update rumours and speculation as to when the next fix update will be released?

At the end of the day, Orange has shafted us again. They treat us like testers, except WE PAY THEM to be testers- and they treat us with contempt, denying that the e200 does not have any problems.

Rant over.

Here i go again, on the defensive!

At the highest bug level, many of you seem to ignore the fact that after 1 year of testing the SPV on us, they still have not fixed:

-Forgetful T9

-Dodgy GPRS

I've not experienced the T9 bug yet but others have so fair point.

Dodgy GPRS?! Are you referring to the fact that it doesn't time out? I find it hilarious that people whinged when it wouldn't connect and now people are complaining when it stays connected! GPRS dialling bug is FIXED, thats what matters!

And in some instances, made things worse!!!

-SPEAKER BUZZING (the main reason why I returned my e200)

-Battery life

-4 way joypad

Speaker buzzing: Myself, ukpauls and DavidRM must be very lucky as we have experienced only very slight buzzing and certainly nothing that would warrant returning what is a great phone!

4 way joypad: Agreed this is a pain (its 5 way if you want to get picky but thats neither here nor there, the lack of 9 way movement is the problem) but it may be possible to fix it, this is a grey area at the moment. My point in reation to the joystick is that you say

We were sold a phone that currently does not do what it says on the tin!
What does your box say then?! Mine has no mention of a 9 way joystick?

And then there are the other bugs:

-Incompatible SPV software

-B/T that seems to be only good at one thing; draining the battery!

The E200 has Windows Mobile 2003 installed on it, do you want to run your old DOS games on XP or would you rather play new games? The new OS is a step in the right direction with .NET support, something that 2002 simply doesn't have at this time and as for your comments about Bluetooth, please show me a phone that's battery doesn't drain faster when using Bluetooth?!

I am getting fed up with the bad feeling towards the E200, it really is a great handset, so much more powerful than any previous models and great fun to use, take it from me, buy one!

i) Unforunately the T9 bug is real. I have experienced it and so have many other e200 users.

ii) GPRS- I am referring to the fact that it doesn't autodisconnect and the e200 still has problems connecting

iii) Speaker buzzing appears to be a major problem due to poor phone build. I have read that many users have been issued with replacements e200 phones with the same buzzing problem!

iv) I enjoy playing games on my phone, so the lack of a decent 8/9 way joypad is stupid

You neglected to comment on the poor battery life and incompatible SPV software. can I assume that this means you are happy with these issues?

And regarding the "does what is says on the tin" comment.. I think somewhere it says that I can use my e200 as a phone. Well, I was unable to do this as the buzzing was unbearable.

Firstly, let me make sure that you realise that i mean nothing personal! I just find it hard to believe just how much the e200 is getting put down. I did acknowledged the T9 bug although haven't experienced it myself yet, have had absolutely no problems whatsoever connecting to GPRS, cannot complain about the buzzing in the earpiece as it is not that bad, and also did previously acknowledge the lack of diagonal movement on the joypad. The Battery life is the same as my E100 was and so is not worse on the E200 in my opinion, and I did comment on the software.

I am starting to believe that i got lucky and have a good e200 unlike most people who "seem" to have received duff ones!

I'm with brody on this one. whats the problem with GPRS?? its never had a problem connecting due to the phone, and now you tell it when to disconnect... which i believe to be better.

I've not had any buzzing from the ear piece, so i must be lucky.

i think the battery life is very simular to the original but i also have it synced when ever i'm home so it maybe that it never gets a chance to run down..

not commented on the points that ive not come accross such as T9 as ive not had this problem

I have just given an E200 back after borrowing it for a couple of days. Its a great phone but

....I DID notice the speakerbuzz problem you mention and the controller is definately naff and certainly NOT an improvement.

Although I would say in its defence that its one heck of a nice phone to own.

I dont know if its really a wise move to upgrade to it yet certainly not after all the inherant faults that the SPV E100 has.

Judging by the way Orange have dragged their heals over the update for E100 I am certainly NOT going to jump on the bandwaggon just yet....

I doubt very much if the surface has even been scratched yet where software problems are concerned.....but lets see if I am proved wrong.

Good luck to those that have the balls to upgrade though as I think you have guts and a lot of blind faith in an otherwise usually ok mobile phone operator.

I love mine. cant believe people get so worked up over such small things. Its a mobile phone! You wont die if your battery runs out.....erm unless youve just crashed into a deep ravine and your life depends on making a phonecall to the emergency services :?

Following the debate with half an ear as i don't have an e200 but correct me if i'm wrong, aren't GPRS devices meant to stay connected? after all you only get charged for data transfer, not length of call. or am i missing something?

Yes except that two years ago phones used to last 3 days+ without needing to be charged up and cost half as much. These phones may do all these amazing things like play DivX but if you do crash in a ravine and forgot to charge it the night before you are stuffed. A year after the SPV and the battery life is no better with the £199 E-200!

I'm with brody on this one. whats the problem with GPRS??

I think to appreciate the poor quality of the gprs connection on the SPV family (e200 included) you have to use a non-MS smartphone. For example my Treo connects instantly to any service (web, e-mail, messenger), the E200 sits saying connecting. What is it doing? Other handsets don't need this time to connect, they just do it. Many times I have sat with my E200 or SPV or MPX200 waiting and waiting for it to connect, on some days it can take a good 30 seconds.

Also on a connecting note, it is quite interesting when you run msn messenger on the e200 along side the spv. They both connect in a very similar space of time, yet the spv displays the timer in the middle of the screen, the E200 does not. Have MS cut down the amount of annoying timer time by simply making it disappear? (out of sight, out of mind?)

The big problem with the SPV and E100 was the dialling bug, it would sit in this state forever! This has definately been fixed on the E200.

Yes it has, but it still spends a disproportionate amount of time connecting.

Fair enough, i can't comment on this as my Smartphone's have been the first phones that i have used to connect to GPRS. All i will say is that Orange have taken a step in the right direction and are still getting stick for it! Notice there are no topics hailing the lack of GPRS sticking, people are jumping on the band wagon and putting down the E200 as it seems to be the done thing atm. It reminds me of how people put down MS software, something that i didn't think i'd come across on an MS Smartphone forum!

It seems that people were a little pissed off at being beta testers for the original SPV, cos to be fair it was full of bugs. The fact that Orange have delayed 1.6 update for so long has made a lot of people annoyed (as the updates are there to fix problems with the phone, therefore Orange are happy for us to have defective software whilst other networks roll out their updates).

Now if you take all of that and then bring out a new phone, which has very few new features. People expect it to work properly after a year of doing Oranges bug testing with pretty poor support. When it is found to have a number of problems within the first week of release I can perfectly well understand peoples anger and frustration. I think also people felt like this phone was gonna fix all the problems from last time, most of which it does not really address. The poor GPRS connection is just one problem, and still only an annoyance. More serious to me is the shocking phone call quality, surely this should be first and foremost in a phone.

First and foremost in a phone and fine on my handset as well as many of my friends'. We must have been lucky?!

Must have been.

Although I wouldn't say the call quality is as bad as some people make out it is still nowhere near the quality of other modern handsets. OCS is a fine example to phone up, the recorded voice sounds boomy, causing them to distort on the speaker. If you know someone with a recent sony ericsson or nokia compare them with your e200, the quality is worlds apart.
