Guest boyo Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 Hi, new to the site, been reading intently about the e200 for the last few hours (getting paid at the same time!) I noticed that there's a few issues with Messenger in france on the e200 but I'm also having problems here in the UK. The confusing thing is that the orange site, as stated in other posts, says that the security issue requires updates for the older SPV's but it doesn't affect the new e200. I phone Orange and got some muppet who had no answers for anything technical about the phones (as usual) and he told me that the Messenger service had been pulled by MS for all the phones - is this true? When I try and log on i get the signing in message saying "Please sign out when finished blah blah" and then it comes up with an error saying the service is currently unavailable, please try again later. I also noticed that there are other posts about the customisation tool on the companion CD not working, saying that connection had failed, any more updates on this? Orange cc said they wouldn't have an e200 to test this for a few weeks!!! And one other thing, I used the update facility on orange.co.uk to set up the internet access for GPRS but the e200 wasn't available in the list of phones. I used the e100 settings instead and it seems to have worked, does anyone know if this would have caused problems elsewhere? Lots of questions but like everyone else, keen to get the phone working properly! Cheers, I appreciate any help! Andy
Guest coreymcl Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 I can tell you the the Developer's SPV-E200 has the upgrade to allow it to work. I am used it several times here in the US.
Guest Brody Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 MSN Messenger works fine on my E200 in the UK.
Guest Russell@home Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 @boyo I have the same problems with messenger as you. Lets hope it's fixed soon
Guest statscat Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 can you sign in over the internet ok ? sometimes the server your account details are held on can fall over, so maybe the issue is MSN, I've just signed in OK on my E200. If can sign in via the internet then its likely to be a "phones settings" issue, if you get a similar error it could be server issue. If in doubt reboot phone (turn off switch on) what works for MS PC's works for MS phones too in general ...... nature of the beast
Guest Russell@home Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 I was typing to a contact when I tried! I have problems with WAP at the moment, I don't think it's a coincidence!
Guest statscat Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 do you have GPRS, WAP etc enabled on your account ? give customer services a ring and check that you sim is enabled to use the dial up service, I think its called Orange World Tarriff (they changes the names frequently) and it gives you a "data" bundle you can find out more in the your plan section of the orange web site

Guest Russell@home Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 I do have orange world. So far, I have spent a long time on the phone to tech support. We managed to get GPRS working but still no WAP He was supposed to call back last night but didn't :-(
Guest boyo Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 hi people, thanks for the responses. It seems there are definitely problems. I think I'll play around with it some more on the weekend though and try speaking to someone who actually knows something at Orange. I've got GPRS turned on for sure because I used to have it on my old SPV working fine (along with messenger) and I can connect to the net in IE and send MMS messages no problem from the E200. Did anyone else have problems with the configuration program on the companion CD?
Guest Russell@home Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 Errr I have to hold my hand up & admit that the problems were down to me. An incorrect password to be precise. Sorry, but it works fine! Russ
Guest Henri Posted December 13, 2003 Report Posted December 13, 2003 Same problem as you are having with messenger but from France. No way to make it work. Though my account is working from my PC when connected through the SPV E200 as a GRPS modem. Seems to be something with the Messenger software on the SPV.
Guest tewmgd Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 Same problem here, my config : Orange France with a 10Mb/month for GPRS data (old plan, now 5Mb) I can browse internet websites without problem, send email, sync with exchange server.... but no messenger service. Matthieu
