Guest Gorskar Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 Eagle eyed forum member Scottt, has spotted a tool on Microsoft's website that claims to be able to fix some SP2002 apps to allow them to work on SP2003 devices. What is the problem? The internal format of databases changed in the Windows Mobile 2003-based Pocket PC and Smartphone. This causes some third party applications to hang or display an error message when they attempt to access their data. The affected applications are those that install databases along with the program itself. This is fairly common. If users have an application that worked on Pocket PC or Smartphone 2002 and does not work correctly on Windows Mobile 2003-based Pocket PC or Smartphone, they should try this wizard. This tool is also useful for users that have entered data into applications on a previous release of Pocket PC or Smartphone and now are upgrading to the 2003 release and want to migrate their data as well. They are encouraged to contact the technical support representatives of the organization or company that provided the application originally for more detailed help in migrating their data. What does this do? This wizard searches for any databases on a device, archives them to the desktop machine and converts them to the new format. This allows the applications to work correctly with no changes required to the program itself. The user does not need to know the location or name of the database to use this tool. The wizard also supports two other modes of operation that are intended to be useful under the guidance of a technical support representatives of the organization or company that provided the application originally. To give this a try visit the website here to read more, and download the tool. Please post any success/failure stories below!
Guest maxh2003 Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 I ran this yesterday, it spent half an hour browswing my phone, including a long time looking at my 128Mb of OGG files, then announced that it had found no databases to fix. My phone certainly *seems* unchanged, for instance Imeter still doesn't work :-( Anyone had any more luck than me?
Guest Brody Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 Nope, same result here i'm afraid
Guest drew_e Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 I loaded "mytools" (mytools.sp.cab 11,402 bytes) - http://www.micro-cheng.com/products/mytoolsppc.html - on to my new SPV E200 & when I ran it, the phone froze. I removed the battery & restarted the phone but it won't get past the Windows Mobile screen & freezes. :!: :!:

I must have downloaded the wrong file when I was rat arsed last weekend from watching the Rugby. Nearly gave myself as big a headache again without the pleasure  Must say the phone is a terrific piece of kit now that all the design & 2002 software bugs have been ironed out. It only cost me £59.95 incl vat & delivery from onestopphoneshop.com on a base 120 contract + 256MB Viking SDD card @ £53.80 incl vat & delivery from ebuyer.com
