Guest mike8109 Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 is there any system upgrade for mpx200 so far, like the 1.6 upgrade for spvs?
Guest statscat Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 the best place to keep tracks of updates if its an Orange phone is http://web.orange.co.uk/yourphone/mpx200/?...one.mpx200&rd=1 they tend to offer the updates for download from the bottom of the your phone page (well they did with SPV and E100). The motoroal is relatively new so I wouldn't expect a patch until 2004.
Guest UKMadBeef Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 What kind of stuff gets fixed with the ROM updates? Are we talking the niggly little things like the external LCD showing who you're speaking to when you're actually in a call (instead of your logo) or more serious stuff? My fingers are still crossed for a WM2003 update, but I'll probably have arthritis before that happens.
Guest statscat Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 it varies but in general ROM updates contain "enhancements" and "new features" thats the theory anyway. They might have fixes for issues such as the battery life or other encountered usability points, upgrades and performane improvemnts to core systems, e.g. GORS stack and new software. Its a combination of Microsoft patches, updates etc, OEM/manufacturer enhancements and then extras from your operator, for instance the SPV's upgrade provided new software too. They tend to be delivered in an RUU.exe file which you run on your computer with your phone connected via active sync (and to a power supply)
Guest Shuflie Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 They tend to be delivered in an RUU.exe file which you run on your computer with your phone connected via active sync (and to a power supply) Power supply is not an issue with MPx200 (or even possible to connect) with this type of update. To update from a downloaded file you need to be connected to via USB port and the MPx200 charges through the USB cable. Its a different matter with the keyboard update which is downloaded to the phone OTA. Incidently if you check for updates via the phone (Orange MPx200 phone that is) you will find the uk keyboard driver on there, I don't know what this will do to the MPx200 though. Running it on the SPV changed my software version from 1.3.5.6 to 1.3.7.6, don't think I fancy trying it out on the MPx200 as it may mess it up totally.
Guest statscat Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 the MPx200 charges through the USB cable. . hmm so it is still connected to a power supply via the USB (running off your pc or laptop power supply). THe point I am making is if you run out of power during / mid upgrade then you will screw the image on your phone. The compal Ar-11 is exactly the same so as the MPx the E200 has a usb cradle which it can charge over (can charge using E100 cradle too) whereas the SPV and E100 both require an external source.
Guest UKMadBeef Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 I tried downloading the Keyboard Update on my MPx200 - it came back and told me there was nothing registered to handle the data type, or words to that effect. (ie. there wasn't an associated program for the file extension) It did absolutely nothing else other than sit there, so I deleted it. No harm to the phone at all. As for updating the flash - the MPx200 won't have a problem with loss of power, as the data and power both travel through the same MiniUSB connection. Although statscat is absolutely right - any interruption to the flashing process on either device will more than likely render the phone unusable. (or at the very least, heavily retarded  ) Anyone know about how often new ROMs were released for the SPVs? Although I imagine the frequency of updates will be less for the MPx200, it not being Orange's baby and all that.
Guest Shuflie Posted November 29, 2003 Report Posted November 29, 2003 One official one from Orange UK and another one awaited very eagerly as I'm sure you must heve noticed by now.
