How much does MSN Messanger cost?

I understand that GPRS bills by data size and not by time, but in order to keep the list of 'who's online' current, it must be transferring data.

If I keep it on, am I going to get a big bill?

BTW, is there a (preferably freeware) program that logs how much GPRS data I have been using?
