Guest Pagemakers Posted November 29, 2003 Report Posted November 29, 2003 What's all the hype about .NET? I've installed a few .NET games and they are not so hot. They resemble a basic Java game. Is this is, or does it get better?
Guest midnight Posted November 29, 2003 Report Posted November 29, 2003 the whole point is it makes it easier for anyone to get into developing. .NET is definitely not about games, yes some basic games will be written using it, but for games c++ will be the language of choice. But for application development, .NET is ideal.
Guest gameonthego Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 Yea got to agree there - C++ is the still the standard for developpment of "performance" games for SmartPhone. There are lots of reasons for this but mainly because you have more control over how to make things happen. The .NET environment is nice to use though.
Guest Pagemakers Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 But the most important thing is the quality of the finished program, not how easy it was to construct.
Guest midnight Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 but with .NET application development is simple, end product quality shouldnt be any lower, unless its games. Cos .NET wasnt meant for graphics manipulation. A bit like why VB was created. But .NET is a way of standardising cross-platform in the same way that Java works. So an app created in .NET for pocketPC or even for Windows should be simple to port over.
