Guest mattscholey Posted November 29, 2003 Report Posted November 29, 2003 Hi, I phoned up OCS today to ask how much it would cost me to change to their OVP Virgin tariff. The girl said £200, because of the subsided cost of the phone, when buying with line rental. After hanging up and thinking about it, I realised that can't possible be right. I'm on Your Plan 30 (£15/month) and have been on it for nearly 4 months. This means I have 8 months left on my contract. £15x8=£120 This means that I only have £120 to pay off until I've fully paid for my phone. So why did the girl say £200? I think I might call back tomorrow, when I'm more awake, to clarify this. How much should it cost me? Matt
Guest markd66 Posted November 29, 2003 Report Posted November 29, 2003 £200 could well be right - in some cases the subsidy is not necessarily completely covered by the cost of your remaining contract. But it's definately worth checking. In any case, if they won't budge on the £200, you could move yourself onto the Orange High Speed Data tariff. Most calls are charged at a flat rate of 20p per min (O - O is 15p). It's a standard O tariff, so you can move for free and it's only £10 per month. Cheers, Mark.
Guest mattscholey Posted November 29, 2003 Report Posted November 29, 2003 Seems like a good idea. I could get all my SMS, MMS and GPRS requirements through the new Orange World Access bundles for £4/month (I'm paying this already). Then I'd save £5/month on my current line rental. I'd miss out on my free minutes, but id my sums are correct, to spend £5 at 20p/min you'd have to chat for 25 minutes. So i'm really only missing out on 5 free minutes (I can often use as little as 10 mins a month). Thanks a lot for the suggestion - worth looking in to. Matt
Guest mattscholey Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 OCS wouldn't let me change to this tariff, as my phone was not a HSCSD phone. Have you got onto it, and if so how? And yes, it was £200 to change to OVP Virgin (£25/month for every month left in my contract). Matt
Guest markd66 Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 No, afraid not (although I know a few people who are - none who have an SPV). Sorry if it's a duff steer - O used to be a bit more lax about this sort of thing. Cheers, Mark.

Guest ajb3000 Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 Ring em up and tell em you got a Nokia 6210 or something second hand and wish to use your sim card in it and that you want HSCSD enabled, then a few days later switch to high speed data plan tariff.
Guest mattscholey Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 Ring em up and tell em you got a Nokia 6210 or something second hand and wish to use your sim card in it and that you want HSCSD enabled, then a few days later switch to high speed data plan tariff. Only problem with that is that I have Orange Care on my account, which I want to insure my E100, and if they get me giving even a hint that I might not be using an Orange SIM card in the phone they're insuring, than that might stop them paying up. Guest mattscholey Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 If you have anything further to say about the Orange High Speed Data Tariff, than please post in this topic: http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=97680. It'll fit better in there. Anything more about the Virgin tariff, then please post here. I know that I'm not a mod - just want to try and keep all the posts on one subject in the same topic, therefore making everything easier to find. Matt
