Guest shaun Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 Hi Everyone, I currently have an SPV, which is on monthly contract (£15 per month). I am not a heavy user, my bills rarely exceed £30. I have my wifes modile on my account using a Virgin tariff, which cost nothing only the calls. I would really like a E200 when my contact expires on the 18th December, but Orange have quoted £200. I have been with orange since April 1994. I am not spending £100 a month like some of you guys, but with phones, acessories and call charges I have spent over £3,000 with Orange. I just think £200 upgrade is a bit steep, but I have called customer serivice and reactivations any they are telling me because I have my wife's phone on the same account they average the two bills, making my account look very light. My SPV has that much dust under the screen its getting hard to read the screen in certain light, the power button is sticking, and the phone is droping calls. I think its about had its day. What I would like to do is get Orange to swap this phone for a E200 with my paying say £50, i may go to £100 but they won't. They have offered to swap my fulty phone for another SPV. I am unsure what to do, if I just leave it until my contact expires hoping for a better upgrade cost will the still change my SPV for nothing on orange care (i.e. if i can't get the deal I want on the E200)? Any one got any suggestions? Thanks Shaun
Guest adrianfox Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 Don't get one, you'll regret it. I upgraded my SPV to the E200 and ended up taking it back for a refund due to: - buzzing in earpiece - poor battery life < 1 day - missed incoming calls (staight to voice mail) I'm now back with my original SPV and considering the MPX200
Guest morpheus2702 Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 Mate, come the 18th just asked to be put straight through to cancellations. Keep your nerve as they will be happy enough to say 'that's fine sir' for ten minutes. After that, and when they think you are perfectly serious about cancelling, they will ask you why you are cancelling. Mention the upgrade fee to them, and how you have been an Orange customer for nearly ten years. If you want, mention that you have been offerred another smartphone on another network for free. Be casual about it. They will see you are a loyal customer and whilst £30 a month ain't a great deal, its still £360 a year they won't want another network to have. I am pretty sure they will be able to cut you a deal - and given how long you have been with Orange, I would expect NO upgrade fee. And if they don't - hey, let's hope the XPhone is out on O2 soon.
Guest xanadu Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 My next phone will be a Motorola V500. Tried the SPV E200 and MPX200 in my local Orange shop. MPX200 feels very cheap quality and poor display. SPV E200 seems a good phone, but I have had enough of smartphones. Motorola V500 has very nice display, camera, games, good build quality. If I want email and MSN on the move then I can take my SPV with me. Goodbye smartphone. Nothing smart about it at all :D
Guest ianintheworld Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 I am in the same situation. My contract expires December 18th and I really don't want to pay Orange another couple of hundred pounds for a phone again. My SPV is fine but I really want to upgrade to take advantage of the BT and built in Camera. They are both features I use a lot. I have been with Orange since 1999 and spend about £70 a month. I have upgraded my phone every year and paid the full amounts. Not this time. I'm prepared to go to another network if Orange aren't helpful this time round. Now I just need to figure out if its worth getting the E200 or P900 and who's going give me the best deal.
Guest maxfield Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 I had rang orange upgrades twice giving them the old I will leave orange speal and I have been with you x amount of years but no luck! Orange kept saying £149 for the upgrade or £149 for a new contract and that I would have to wait my contract was up on 17th December anyway. Then last week saw the SPV on www.directmobilephones.com for £89.95 on Orange your plan 200. I phoned upgrades again and told them about the above site and was put on hold for about five minutes then new a lady said hello this is Orange customer relations. This lady then said Orange would give me the upgrade today for £49.95 and the phone would be with me within two days. I jumped at that price and the phone did turn up within two days. I am on Talk 200 + Orange World + Insurance + another phone on talk share - average monthly bill £75.00. Keep trying upgrades and qoute to Orange how cheap other sites are. Best regards - A very happy Orange customer! Andy
