Guest bottom98 Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 Hi Does anyone know if the voice tags work on the E200 or if it is going to be an update? I first found out about them on the Microsoft site, but on investigation I also found it should be an option on the Orange site, but I can't see them on the menus. Spoke to orange three times this morning who say that they will send SIM updates, but these didn't make any difference. The last time I spoke to them they said it's not their problem and that I should take it up with Microsoft or the manufacturers! He gave me the number for SPV direct which is 01295 662109. Regards Nick http://web.orange.co.uk/yourphone/spv/mana...manageyourcalls http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/res...cdma=no&gsm=yes
Guest Hax Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 The orange link you give is for the "original" SPV (on which it was most certainly *not* possible to add voice tags). If you look under the E200 phone, voice tags are not mentioned at all HTH, Hax
Guest Kallisti Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 Au contraire. It's pretty obscure, but go to the speed dial app, click help at the top and you get: "Info To create a speed dial, open a Contact or select a Start menu item and choose 'Add Speed Dial' or 'Add Boice Tag'." Once again, just Orange crippling the phone.
Guest Hax Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 I thought that the "crippling" was down to the costs involved to include a voice recognition module... Hax
Guest bottom98 Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 I've escalated a call with Orange Tech Support to see if I get any further, you never know!
Guest RussellH Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 Voice tags is an important feature for me, and was one of the reasons I never bought an original SPV or E100. I had hoped the E200 would have this facility. Sadly it doesn't. I actually called Microsoft's Head Office to find out why they didn't include such an important feature on a phone that's supposed to be all singing and all dancing, especially bearing in mind the law changes in the UK with regard to using phones while driving. They got someone to call me back. He said it wasn't included on the phone, but that "Microsoft Voice Command" software was could be downloaded from their website. He said that a Smartphone version became available in November. What I don't know is whether or not this is compatable with phones running 2003 like the E200. I also don't know if it'll work with any Bluetooth hands free devices. For that matter, does anyone know if the Fonix voice dial software works with any Bluetooth hands free kits?
Guest dom Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 'fraid I can't answer the questions (though would be interested in the answers), but had a look at the MS website, and VoceCommand seemed to only be available for Pocket PC and Pocket PC Phone Edition, not smartphone. Am I missing something?
Guest glynton Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 When i saw Voice Command... i too got the impression it was a purely Pocket PC thing. Plus I bet you have to talk to it in an american accent
Guest Bonzo Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 Hmmmm it seems starnge that the E200 shouldn't have the facility to add voice tags to contacts and use voice dialing running WM2k3 whenthe MPx200 does!!! Even if U do need kind of deformed fingers to get it to work every time!!!
Guest rayloh Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 "Voice recognition must be supported so that voice tag dialing is enabled. The OEM may choose to use any 3rd party engine wrapped in the SAPI lite interface, documented in the Smartphone SDK." Hardware developer, in this case HTC will need to license the speech recognition engine from a 3rd party, which will ultimately incur additional cost which will be pass on to Orange. Unless Orange specifically requested Voice Tag support, else I'm not sure it will come default from HTC.
Guest lowbug Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 err doesn't orange say it works on the website... it's up to them to sort it.... Trade descriptions......
Guest Kallisti Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 nah, they said it worked for the SPV, not the E200.
Guest Hax Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 Still trade descriptions - no *native* voice recognition on the SPV either... Hax
Guest 4runner Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 Hi, In answer to fonix voice dial query, I have it installed on my e200 works great however I cant get it to work with my bluespoon headset. Wether it will or I dont know as I dont know what I am doing. Cheers
Guest SirGaz Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 'fraid I can't answer the questions (though would be interested in the answers), but had a look at the MS website, and VoceCommand seemed to only be available for Pocket PC and Pocket PC Phone Edition, not smartphone. Am I missing something? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Pocket PC Phone Edition the clever name for smartphone 2003? Therefore this should work :?
Guest glynton Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 No... Pocket Pc phone edition is equivalent to the XDA or XDA 2. It's Pocket PC, but with phone functionality. Smartpone edition is a phone with PDA functionality.
Guest TimboDavis Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Hi all! I downloaded Microsoft Voice Command (at a cost of $46 from Handango) yesterday for my SPV E200 and it has the wrong .CAB files according to the display. It tells me that it isn't intended for "this device". I'm fairly new to the Smartphone/Windows Mobile 2003 scene and I have to say that it doesn't appear "to do what it says on the tin!". Can anybody advise me how to recognise software that IS compatable with the version of Windows Mobile 2003 on the E200?? Orange tech support told me that "ANY Windows Mobile 2003 application will work on the E200". It doesn't appear to be the case though. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated. Happy New Year to all!!! Timbo
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 You have to be careful as "Windows Mobile" is the generic name for ALL mobile device OS's. However they are split into two discrete versions, Windows Mobile for Pocket PC/Pocket PC Phone Edition, and Windows Mobile for Smartphone. If your device has a numberpad its a Smartphone, and as such will only run software designed for that specific platform.
Guest TimboDavis Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 Thanx Mono! Clearly and succinctly put! NOW I understand..... ...thankfully it only took 46 bucks to learn!! 8) cheers
Guest RussellH Posted January 2, 2004 Report Posted January 2, 2004 I phoned Microsoft UK Head Office a few weeks ago to ask about this software. Someone phoned me back and said this was now available for Smartphones from Handango, and that it would work with the SPV E200. Sounds then like he was wrong. I haven't bothered to check, as I returned my phone to Orange under the 14 day option due to call quality, battery life, etc. If some of these problems get sorted out and voice dialling becomes a reality, I will be getting another E200 for sure! Happy New Year.
