Best way to replace SPV via Orange

Hi. I have an SPV which has several problems which will be familiar - slow, bad battery life, locks out, has had to be reset 4 times, etc. Also, the screen lets in loads of dust.

I realise that the forthcoming update may solve some of the problems, but if I send off my phone to Orange (UK) (as faulty), do you think they would replace it or just try to repair it? I just don't want them to send it straight back saying wait for the update - I was hoping that the dust under the screen might be enough for me to request a replacement, as it is a fault with the actual design of the phone. [i DON'T HAVE ORANGE CARE THOUGH - I AM HOPING TO GET A REPLACEMENT JUST UNDER THE WARRENTY]

As the dust is a fault of the design of the phone ( I believe), is there some sort of law that would mean Orange have to replace it anyway?

When I phoned Orange they said they had no SPVs in stock anyway - and that if it was to be replaced, it would be with an SPVE100. Would this be the case do you think, or would it be HAYES (the company that would be examaning my phone) that would be providing the replacement? If so, does anyone know if they still have SPVs in stock?

Finally, if anyone else has mananged to get a free replacement from Orange UK (and you don't have orange care), can you let me know how please, so I have an idea of what's best to say when I report it.

thanks,

craig

As you do not have Orange care what will probably happen is that you will

be required to send the phone for repair this can take up to two weeks.

I THINK that Hayes don't replace the phone, they get either your insurer or the manufacturer to replace it. At least, that's what happened with my old Sony Z7 when it bust and got sent to them.

I also seem to recall that they're no longer allowing dust under the screen, as it is allegedly a "cosmetic issue". Seems a bit unreasonable to me though, and whoever you speak to should be able to tell you what the situation is - be careful, Hayes charge money for you to get your phone back unrepaired if they deem it not to be a warranty problem.

Can't you buy Care - I think there's something called "Emergency Care" that you pay a one off fee for, once you've got the phone. That would be your easiest solution.

There is Emergency care, you do have to make an initial payment but you also

then have to take out a years care contract.

Ok thanks guys. When you said about dust being a 'cosmetic issue' what exactly does that mean? Surely it shouldn't let dust inside, I read somewhere that the sealing on the screen of the SPV isn't as it should be which is why dust is let in. Therefore this surely should be a design flaw and due to that I would think I am entitled to a replacement - one that won't suffer the same problem.

As I said orange UK are out of stock of SPVs anyway so IF they were to replace it it would be with an E100. Can anyone from Orange give me an answer please on this subject???

I ain't saying that's definitely the case - I just heard that it is (see here. It is unreasonable, and I would bet that if you're lucky enough to get them to admit that it is a fault, the most you'll get is them agreeing to repair it for free - I really can't see them giving you a new phone for dust under the screen. That's why I suggested Emergency Care if you want a replacement - although it appears that would be pretty expensive.

Give Hays a call for details on dust under the screen being covered, and the likelihood of a replacement - they are the ones who deal with warranty for HTC. Telephone 01295 662109.
