Guest vask Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 whenever i want to install something it only gives me an option between the sd card and the flash memory on the phone, however i have almost 100% free storage on ram which i have no access to. any ideas?
Guest vask Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 is it actually possible to install files on sd card when the flash memory is full. it doesnt appear to be possible on mine. someone comment
Guest Bonzo Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 well didn't U say in your first post it gives U the option of SD card or flash!!! So yeah U should be given the option when installing to put it on the card or into the flash... as for storage in the RAM... I doubt U could or would want to!! As I remember the RAM is refreshed from the ROM everytime the phone is turned off/on so anything U installed there would be lost.... Although I could well be wrong about that!
Guest alphaflux Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 You wouldn't want to install applications to RAM, as this memory is used to run applications. Fill that up and nothing will run. Also, as with a computer, when you turn it off everything in memory (RAM) is lost. Continuing this analogy  ; both Flash (phone) and SD card memory are equivalent to a hard disk on a computer. You install and store programs on the hard disk and load them into RAM when you want to run them. Hope that helps. Alphaflux.
Guest Shuflie Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 Try removing a few things from the IPSM storage to give it a bit of working room. You can also try copying the CAB file you want to install to your SD card and either use a file manager to run the CAB file directly or create a shortcut to it in the start menu and run from there.
Guest vask Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 well isnt it the same as with pocketpc where if u put things in ram they remain there until the battery is drained? also how do i increase memory given to programs. right now its split 20megs for programs and 10megs for storage, so if i cant use that storage space how can i reduce the amount of ram given to storage. so can anyone confirm that the only place where programs can be installed on the phone is the 10meg or so given to ipsm? cheers for all ur help
Guest Bonzo Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 As far as I know there is no way of adjusting the allocation of memory in smartphone devices!!! And yes U are right the RAM wouldn't be erased unless the battery was drained BUT... in smatphones it is ALSO refreshed each time the device is turned off/on... this is also how certain things, (MAPI folder & deleted web history), are purged
