Guest Du2ty Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 Can someone put me straight on the caller ID problem with the MPx200. I dont understand if the problem is with the pre loaded CID software, whether the handset doesnt come with CID and a program is needed or what the hells going on, there are so many conflicting stories out there! I need to know for when my handset arrives from Orange. My head hurts  BTW, cracking forum, full of helpful info!
Guest Du2ty Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 Anyone or does this problem relate to another handset and ive got it all wrong?
Guest FrankyG Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 My Phone came with it pre-installed, my mates didn't...and they were from the same supplier :!: I removed it from my phone as there is no need for it on a flip phone, and it's supposed to improve battery life by doing so. I'm not aware of any other issues though.
Guest FrankyG Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 Correction; it seems like some users are having problems with Caller ID. The problem seems to be a delay between a call coming in and the software matching the number to a name. I don't think this is about any 3rd party caller ID software, more to do with SP2002 and/or the number of contacts that you have stored on the phone. FYI, I have 385 contacts on mine and have not experienced this problem.

That's exactly what I was lead to believe but was unsure about the caller ID software used on the handset, some people believe it was written by a 3rd party and the delay was the result of poor programming? Cheers
Guest shimmip Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 Posted from my SmartPhone!I don't know if this helps or is known about, but I don't think caller ID is actually completely launched at startup when you install it. I've found that if my phone has been turned off then I have to run caller ID from the Program menu before it'll start displaying pictures - you can see it assembling the contact list the first time you do this, which kind of supports my theory. He this is known, sorry folks. If it isn't, hope it helps with your problem. Posted from my SmartPhone!

Guest FrankyG Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 Guys, careful what you refer to by Caller ID. All phones have Caller ID, in that they display the number/name of the caller. However, It seems that this native Caller ID functionality has been poorly implemented on the MPx200, at least some people are reporting delays in name/number recongnition. As for 3rd Party Caller ID applications, like IA's version...I can't comment as I uninstalled it pretty much right away. It's this type of Caller ID app which (to me) is useless on a flip phone, as you need to open the flip to see the picture of your caller. The Caller ID will Still be displayed on the outside of the phone, irrespective of what 3rd Party Caller ID you install. As far as I understand, some of the 3rd Party Apps actually speed up the name/number recognition process which means that the callers name/number will be displayed on the outside LCD that bit quicker. Which is a good thing if you're one of those who find it too slow at the moment, but I certainly won't be paying for any CAller ID app just for this speed up; it's working fine for me right now with 380 contacts on the phone. HTH
Guest ewenfung Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 I got my Caller ID displayed for at least 6 sec. The custom ringtone doesn't work in this situation of course. I finally copied some of the important contact to my SIM card, and those in the SIM cards can be displayed within a sec.
