Have downloaded a demo version of Digital Ear software for converting .wavs to .mids. Installation onto office Win98 PC went okay but got the following "Illegal / Shutting Down" message when trying to run it :

DIGITALEAR caused an invalid page fault in

module MSDXM.OCX at 0167:1d351c7c.

Anything you can suggest to help would be gratefully received. Thanks

MSDXM.OCX is a Windows Media Player ActiveX control- at a guess either this file is corrupt or the program trying to use it (DigitalEar in this case) has a problem with it or is expecting a different version.

If you get no other suggestions or can't find anything likely on Microsoft's Knowledge base try googling MSDXM.OCX to see if you can get a newer version..

Thanks guys - sadly IT training in my office is woefully inadequate and I'm not due for an upgrade till the new year

Will let you know how I get on

You can re-register the OCX files back into the registry by going into the MSDos prompt and issuing the following command:

CD WINDOWSSYSTEM

REGSVR32 MSDXM.OCX

(then again.. this may only work for NT4/2000 - not done 98 for ages. It might be REGSVR not REGSVR32)

It could have been that the file was overwritten by the installation of the Digital Ear software.

If that fails - follow the instructions here to extract an original copy of the file back to where it belongs.

Yeah there's something new falling over every week - got to sort out a home PC soonest. Having broadband at work is very useful though.

Thanks again for the suggestions. Will hopefully get time to follow them up next week.
