Guest xerxers Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 I am new to smartphones. I have been into settings and have found that out of 10mb of storage the phone is already up to 9.5mbs of used space. Are there some apps taht i can do without? If so what are they please. If there are some other 'things' that I can do to get some of that space back please also advise me. thanks Xerxers
Guest deanrh Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 there r some picture files in IPSMApplication DataHome delete the ones u don't use. There might be some files in IPSMMy Documents delete the ones that r of no need. I have 4.5MB free space, try and install all applications on the SD Card, not the phone apart from the MMS client and IA Album.
Guest alphaflux Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 You can install the MMS client and IA Album on the SD card too ... just requires some registry modifications afterwards. I've installed pretty much everthing onto the SD card, and moved some things over too, and now have just under 7 Meg free. 8) Just don't remove the SD card !! or things start to go wrong pretty quickly !
Guest Bonzo Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 The only problem with installing IA Album to the SD card on the MPx is that when the camera is release it too will use the SD card slot so U wouldn't be able to us the camera software in IA Album while U are using the camera!!!
Guest xerxers Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 Thank you for your ideas. Every little helps. Alphflux besides the two applications you have mentioned what ekse have you shifted to your SD card? thanks Xerxers
Guest smokedog Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 Posted from my SmartPhone! I'm waiting for someone to do a hack'ed rom of the MPx200. Getting rid of all the unless orange stuff. Plus I wish I can get rid of the pre-installed orange numbers in my contacts. You delete'em and the come back after a reboot....aarrrggg why wouldn't you die!
Guest alphaflux Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 I basically installed every application that I wanted to my phone and set them up as I would like. Then did a registry export and viewed the export file in notepad on my PC. Search for "IPSM", then replace every occurrance in the registry (not the notpad document ) with "Storage Card". Then move the apps or DLLs where required if they are indeed stored in IPSM. This has worked for me and has allowed me to free up as much space as possible on the phone. I agree, when the Camera is more readily available, this could cause problems. It all depends on whether the camera itself has a child SD slot. I have not been able to find out either way yet, but as I don't intend buying a camera (especially at £80) it shouldn't be a problem for me.
Guest alphaflux Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 smokedog: There is a generic MPx200 ROM available from mpx200.org. This is the Motorola released build and does not contain any of the operator customisations. Per requests; I am afraid I am not going to post the link, but it shouldn't be too hard to find. I've not tried it myself, and as it doesn't give the option to back up your current ROM first I don't intend too either. At least not yet. The main reason for this ROM is to re-enable the MMS client and 900 band for American users, but if you wanted to give it a go the option is there. If you do decide to go for it, let me know how it goes.
Guest shimmip Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 You can store your own sounds and home screens on the SD card if you create a folder called My Documents and put them in there. Not tried moving the Orange ones - don't know if they have to be on the phone or if they get restored if you move them. Anyone? Guest alphaflux Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 Additional: if you use the remote registy editor, it makes the above process a whole lot easier.
Guest smokedog Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 Posted from my SmartPhone! If I install the Motorola released build ROM would that make my phone sim lock free? But I don't want to be the first to try and install this ROM as I as don't want to kill my phone :S
Guest alphaflux Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 I thought that a generic build should un-SIM lock the phone too, as at that point the phone isn't branded by anyone, but according to the posts on the download thread this is not the case. Unsure why though.
