Using MPx200 as a thumb drive?

This may seem a silly question, but can the MPx200 be used as a thumb-drive? I'm going to be getting one very soon, and I was just thinking whether it can do this. I know that the SD card is changeable to larger sizes (1Gb or more, from what I understand), and there is software that comes with it that allows viewing PDF and Word documents.

Does this mean you can simply drop into documents on to it. That is to sau, when you connect it to your PC (especially in XP) will it appear as a removable hard drive with the avilable space of the SD card? If so, could it be used potentially as a thumb drive, dragging and dropping any files that can stored on the SD card. Then, all you would need is to connect the USB cable to another PC to get the files off. My main reason for asking is that I'm always taking PowerPoint presentation around with me on Zip disks. Being able to move them around using this phone would be rather nifty!

I have a feeling that with XP you can connect via IR without having ActiveSync involved. Not sure though.

Failing that of course, an SD card reader will set you back £10 ish...

when the mpx200 or any other PPC or Smartphone device connects to the PC, it's not recognized as drive like you want. Activesync connects the device and syncs data but in no way do you have a drive in "My computer" like you are talking about.

For that you would need a mass storage device like a card reader. Remove the SD card from the mpx200 and attach the card reader with sd card in it to the PC. That is the only way to have a drive as you specified.

Now, you can drag and drop files right from My Computer to the mpx200. In my computer you will get a new item call Mobile Device and you can browse the folders within the IPSM or SD card storage, so in that manner I guess you could say it's still a drive, but not exactly in the context you mentioned above.

Using Smart Explorer ( www.binarys.com/smartphone ) you can send and receive files via IR without any involvement of ActiveSync - I just tried it, so it is defintely possible!

It's not drag and drop, but I guess click and send is good enough.

Need IR on the computer though.

Though smittyofdhs is right, it's still not like a drive. You'd have to move your powerpoint files to the PC to be able to use them.

stevewright is correct and I forgot to mention that. You cannot access files directly thru Windows Explorer, you do have to copy them to the PC first before you are able to open. Good catch stevewright...
