hi on my e100 homescreen (orange layout 1) there are 4 links to websites,,,these are news,gallery,sport,downloads,... i really need to change these but how?? i "believe" i have found the .xml file that contains this link information (ukmspim.home.xml) ??? but when i edit this and put it back to the phone it just reverts back to the original file as the ukmspim.home.xml on the phone is read only and wont let me change it... any ideas???

You are trying to edit the file in the windows directory...this is the ROM read only bit of the phone, try looking in IPSMApplication DataHome and editing the files there...

hey thanks for the reply but the file that needs to be edited is not in this folder its in the windows folder which is read only so i was just wondering if there is a way round this?? as i noticed that on paul mvps e200 pics the links news, gallery, sport, download have been changed to msmobiles, coolsmartphone, modaco etc etc etc so this can clearly be done on the e200 but apperntley not on the e100???

Copy XML file from the windows directory. Edit it the way you wish, then rename the edited file and save it to the ISPMApplication DataHome directory. Select the XML file from the Settings Home Screen menu and you should be good to go...

hi there

no this does not work as the file does not show up in settings/home screen

the file that needs to be edited is ukpim.home.xml and no matter what you rename it to it does not show up in settings/homescreen even though the files is in IPSMApplication DataHome

this wouldnt work anyway as its the "home screen layout" file that needs to be edited and this needs to remain in windows (unless there is a registry hack??)

You need to re-name the title in the XML file itself to the same as the name you are saving it as. E.G. if you save the XML as ukpim2.home.xml then you need to edit the title in the XML as ukpim2 then it will show up in the homescreen selection menu.

Hope this helps.

IN the xml??? you mean this part??

Orange layout 1

Orange layout 1

Orange layout 1

Orange layout 1

Orange layout 1

Orange layout 1

replace the words orange layout 1 with the same title as the filename?

EG: if the filename was tanagerdave.xml then edit the title inside the .xml to look like this?

tanagerdave

thanks for your help

That's the one

Happy fiddling. I've more or less taught myself how to write a home screen by just fiddling with the xml files. Can't do the extra screens yet though, I'll have to find a tutorial, if one exists...

Quick question. I'm getting ready to attempt my first homescreen with selected plugins for my MPX200. My question is, are there any required plugins that must be in the .xml document (ie the carrier AT&T) in order for everything to function properly? Also, where do I go to change the startup and shutdown images? Thanks for any advice you may have!

thanks for the help guys i have got it sorted now  :D

i have attached the .xml file so if anybody wants shortcuts to coolsmartphone/modaco/msmobiles/google on there homescreen then copy the attached file ukmspim.home.xml to IPSMApplication DataHome

then go to settings / home screen and select modaco as your "home screen layout"

PS: this .xml is a modified version of "orange layout 1"

PPS:i have changed the shortcut icons to "82" as i notice that changing the numbers changes the icons but where ARE the icons???
