and I have installed ALL of the programs on evc4... this is the exact error message:

Microsoft eMbedded Visual C++ has discovered no CE platform SDK installed on the desktop. Please install at least one CE platform SDK before launching Microsoft eMbedded Visual C++.

I never got eVC 4 working for 2002, I've had to install eVC 3 for programming 2002 (actually eVC 3 and the 2002 SDKs both come as part of eMbedded Visual Tools,) and eVC 4 for programming 2003. It's a bit rubbish having to do this but after spending several days trying to figure it out I decided this was the best solution! If you only want to program for 2002, eVC 3 is fine - as far as I can tell, in terms of their IDE capabilities, there is no difference between eVC3 and 4, so if it's just the bigger version number tempting you then I'd suggest just ignoring it!

i think it has to do with the shared folder... ce tools something... i forgot... i think ev4 instal ce tools on C:ce tools while smartphone sdk 2002 installs ce tools on C:program filesce tools... or vice versa... i'll try to install them again...

eVC++ 4 is only for 2003 and other CE.Net platforms. It can't be used for 2002 development (since it's not CE.Net based, but based on the older CE code base). If you're wanting to do development for 2002, or any other CE device prior to Windows Mobile, you'll definitely need to download eVC++ 3. Of course, I haven't tried compiling an arm executable from version 4 and running it on a pre-CE.Net device. that might work, but your best best is to just use version 3. I've not really seen any advantage to using 4 versus 3, they didn't necessarily improve the IDE, they just modified it to build for CE.Net.

Version 4 installs to C:Program FilesWindows CE Tools, versus the old version installing to C:Windows CE Tools

I have both running side by side, since I do development for both.
