Finding replacement cable for Smart Phone

We are doing development on the Mitac Mio and unfortunately the firm that is lending us the phone lost the syncing cable for the phone. Is there a place to buy a replacement? Do all smartphones use a standard cable (the pin structure looks the same.) Is there a specific cable type to ask for? Outfits like Mobile Planet have not been helpful yet.

As an alternative, we have tried working with the IR Port but have found that to be flaky. Are there particular tricks to setting that up properly so it could be used as an alternative for development?

Any help would be appreciated.
