Guest mattscholey Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 Two points. 1. If HSCSD was available on the SPV, would you use it? Please vote in the poll, or post your opinions. I would love to use it, as the is the only reasonably-priced way of streaming audio and video, for which the SPV already has so many possiblities (internet radio, live TV and webcams to name just a few). 2. Is it possible for the SPV to support HSCSD via a software update? I found this on orange.co.uk, in the FAQ about the high speed data plan? The question was "What operating systems support the High Speed Data Plan?", and the result included something that caught my attention: For Windows CE, Pocket PC, Apple Mac and IMAC operating systems it is possible to download software from various sites to enable them to work with Orange High Speed Data. I assume that the "Windows CE" line was particuarly referring to Pocket PC's running Windows CE rather than Smartphones, but what it is saying is that all that is needed for Windows CE devices (ie MS Smartphones) to make HSCSD calls is a software update, and therefore, any developer could make one today (or even convert one already out for Pocket PC), and we could use HSCSD, with no additional hardware! Do you think this is true, and do you think there is any chance of a software update coming out for the SPV, giving the phone HSCSD capabilities, coming out any time soon. Basically, lets have a nice long discussing on the topic of HSCSD. Thanks, Matt
Guest morpheus2702 Posted December 6, 2003 Report Posted December 6, 2003  Matt, how about offerring a 'maybe' or 'sometimes' option? I wouldn't use HSCSD as my first choice is GPRS and I don't use streaming media that much. But then again, I'm pissed off with seeing 'dialling' or 'connecting' on my phone so I'd love to have it as a 'back up' connection.
Guest mattscholey Posted December 6, 2003 Report Posted December 6, 2003  Matt, how about offerring a 'maybe' or 'sometimes' option? Done. I wouldn't expect anyone to use it all the time as GPRS would probably be cheaper for web browsing, and you wouldn't have to hang up after you loaded every page. And for messenger and email GPRS will always be the cheapest. And anyone know anything about question 2? Matt
