"Customise your smartphone" - not connected

The CD that comes with the SPV E-200 installs Outlook, then ActiveSync, then "configure your smartphone" - and mine won't.

The software runs from the CD as the manual susggests. It says it's scanning the phone; then stops.

"Connection failed. Check you connection and try again"

Well, the connection is good enough fo Activesync to work OK; and I even switched to a Minisync cable in case the cable that came with the phone wasn't working. I've rebooted both the phone and the PC from cold three times.

I didn't install outlook, since I already had Outlook 2003 on the PC.

Activesync doesn't mind Outlook 2003, and has happily copied all my contacts and apointments, and they're all clearly shown on the E-200.

It is, of course, Sunday...

Computer is running Windows XP Pro. It has to be a software conflict in the PC, I guess? or a broken connector? But if that was what was wrong, then surely Activesync wouldn't work?
