Hi,

I've found that the bottom half of my mpx (and the bottom row of keys: 7, 8, 9 *, 0, #) squeaks when pressed (not hard). The two halves of the casing have some travel (about 1mm). Does anyone else have this or is it a badly built one?

I'm planning on taking it back to get a replacement anyhow - see if I get a more 'solid' one.

I've had the same problem with 2 different units, it looks like the back cover is the issue. If you take it off there isn't any noise, seems to just be a bad choice of plastic for the cover.

Mine does it with the back cover off too, its the part between the grey plastic of the keypad and the main black chassis, not the battery cover. It's more pronounced on the left hand side too, the right hand side has less play.

noproblems like that on mine, everything feels very solid. By the way, the chassis on mine doesn't appear to be plastic, feels very metalic even down to getting very cold to touch when it sits in a cold room for a while, unlike the black part which is plastic, ABS or some other similar material.

Your problem may be a missing or loose screw. Remove the battery cover and you will (should) find four small torx screws at each corner, check that they are all there and look to be screwed in properly.

Yes the grey bit does get cold and so on, so I guess it could be metal, just assumed it was plastic.

Sounds like the squeaky bit is 'not normal', only a minor thing, but going to be living with it for at least a year, so best to make sure its in the best state to last that long.

I reckon it is plastic, with metalic paint on it. I've got an iPaq too, and this is made of plastic, but with a very metalic paint (more so than the MPx200), which often feels cold to touch.
