Guest shadamehr Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 Hi all, Just a quick query (?). I know you can manually set personal ringtones for each contact, one by one, but can anyone tell me how you assign them by entire group. Putting this into perspective, very old nokias such as the now ancient 3210 allowed you to set a ringtone on a per contact basis, but it was very quickly realised that this was long winded and self defeating. Consequently, later Nokias, and especially Business based nokias, then changed this behaviour, so that you could set up specific 'Groups', such as family, work etc. Then you placed whatever contacts you wanted, into whichever group. Then you personalised the settings for the 'Group' (Caller Groups is what they are called on Nokias), including the ringtone you want. This made the process much easier to manage. It meant that if the phone rang in your pocket, and it played a certain tone, you knew before even reaching for it, if it was, say, close family for example. So, given that Orange are keen to remind us that the E200 is a BUSINESS phone (the 4 way joystick response from them remember), then how do you carry out this business behaviour of setting up Caller Groups on the phone and then setting ringtones. To throw another spanner in the works, I find I can assign contacts to a certain CATEGORY, but in order to manage this, they need to be first set up on the PC in Outlook, as I can't find how to do them on the phone. Additionally, the Photo Contacts/Caller ID that is built into the E200, further confounds the whole issue, as this software does indeed let you set up your own GROUP (not categories, as per the phone Contacts App), but this is only for the purpose of setting a caller picture. There seems to be no way to use this for the setting of ringtones. So, given that the two Contacts Software Apps contradict each other in terms of what they do, has any ever resolved this issue? If so, how?
Guest FrankSpencer Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 Just to add another spanner to the works - has anyone noticed that custom ringtones for different contacts only play for their default number? Any other numbers associated with that contact display the right contact name but use the default ringtone - annoying huh?

As I never owned an E100, can anyone tell me if that SPV experienced this quirk too? Or is this unique to the E200 and thus yet another bug?
