Guest [email protected] Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 You guys heard any rumours on this?
Guest nCoder Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 So far there is nothing solid to say there even is an MPx220 (although obviously Moto will release an upgraded model at some point), people just seem to be adding their own features on to make it the phone they have always wanted. Also I have noticed that the release date of this phantom phone has been getting brought closer...first it started as a 1Q phone, then a March phone, then a late February/early March phone, now a February phone.

But reading this article http://www.gizmodo.com/archives/008363.php written in August 2003 it does state the its due February! see http://www.gizmodo.com/archives/010871.php#010871  But as you say, no official word from Moto. as yet therefore (as usual) its just rumours :D
Guest legalbeagle Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 I posted this somewhere else, but this report indicates Feb 2004, and EDGE, but no new screen resolution. http://www.gizmodo.com/archives/010871.php#010871 Edit: Sorry - you mentioned that source already.
Guest midnight Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 i doubt we'll see the new screen resolutions until at least mid 2004, i'd say it takes around 6 months to develop a phone, and more than likely no-one has started on a new res phone just yet (new res would ideally require better processor, and as a higher res screen + faster processor would eat into the battery, i'm sure they may be waiting for battery technology to improve slightly (or at least switch to li-poly)). Hopefully at the same time we'll see mobile direct x introduced, just imagine, 200mhz+, 320 x 200res, and direct 3d, not exactly psp power, but still nice  and my thoughts on the mp220..... mpx220 = i930, one and the same (even though i930 has only been rumoured with mockup artwork, but still, nice phone if its real)
Guest nCoder Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 heh I know February is in the first quarter...but it is the middle of the first quarter as opposed to the end which this phone could quite easily be. The date just seems to be creeping forward. I'm not denying that the rumours could be true. I just think it is strange people holding off and being told to hold off for 3 months to get a phone that could quite easily be a) None existant :D Really expensive c) A generally poor phone when the MPx200 is here now, for free, and is an excellent peice of kit. I just find it strange is all..I mean if they really really need a camera and bluetooth then fair enough, but for most people I would have thought the current MPx would fit the bill nicely, especially if you are able to upgrade now, because you know that come this time next year there will be a whole new batch of phones being released in time for Christmas
Guest jmechan Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 As for the Resolution issue, I think that the res that is on the phones is prescribed by the OS - both Smartphone 2002 and Windows Mobile 2003 only support 176x220 (or whatever it is). I don't think we'll see a change in that any time soon. J
Guest nCoder Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 Microsoft have defined a new screen resolution for Smartphones, which as far as I am aware WM2K3 supports, although I may be wrong about that as I haven't looked into it properly yet.
Guest [email protected] Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 Midnight: When the higher screen resolutions for PPC and SP were announced (to my knowledge they were announced at the same time) there was already a PPC to support the resolution, Toshiba e800. Couldn't that be the case for SP?
Guest midnight Posted December 10, 2003 Report Posted December 10, 2003 i doubt it. i think ms have stricter control over ms smartphone. Some windows ce mobiles could use higher res, but as far as the proper ms smartphone/windows mobile os goes, i dont think we'll see any res changes just yet, will be fun when they do change it though, especially for us, we could make mega detailed games
Guest [email protected] Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 Yeah, sadly I think You're right. In Sweden we have a saying: Hope is the last thing to leave the human being...
Guest gameonthego Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 Old games would have to be reworked though
Guest Richie M Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 Old games would have to be reworked though Er no, as the new screen res standard means that the OS will support the current screen and the new higher res
Guest gameonthego Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 Let not get pinickity - to take advantage of the new resolution a lot of current games would have to be reworked.
