speeding up internet explorer

I just found turning off the 'smoothscroll' setting on internet explorer on my brothers laptop (old pentium 1) speeded up scrolling by a large amount.

because of that, i searched the registry of my e100 and found the same setting there too!

I'm not entirely sure if i'm imagining it, but switching it off has noticably improved the speed i can scroll though pages

(HKCU/software/microsoft/internet explorer/main/smoothscroll, change the value to 0)

can someone else try it to see if it makes a difference?

I'm just about to check it out now. I'll let you know if I see any difference.

EDIT: From about 15 minutes testing, I have noticed an increase of scrolling speed, quite a big increase at that. I would recommend that people try this tweak out, as it does speed browsing up quite considerably.

I gave it a try, and I think it does help out some. Enough that it is noticable and worth doing. Thanks for the tweak!

HKCU/software/microsoft/internet explorer/main/smoothscroll

That key is not on the E200

Maybe that is one of the reasons the E200 is faster with the internet.

I use X-Bar and the plugin for faster scrolling on my old SPV, and it works a charm!!

EDIT: nevermind, slight brain failure leading to a confused post! oops!

MoRFLeZ, what plug-in for X-bar to you refer to? I'm interested in checking it out!

Oh yeah, and any chance of creating a cab to make this tweak automatically? Might also be worthwhile moving this to the Customisation forum.

Good idea

*downloads smartphone SDK*

hopefully i can work out how to make CAB files without exploding my phone or something

Take a look at midnights speed tweaks, they do the same thing. i.e. a cab installer with only reg tweaks as the payload.

Had a go, no luck though

i get the incredibly usefull error message 'IE.CAB failed to install on your device' with the CAB file i made

can get no info out of midnight's tweaks, they don't contain the XML setup file for some reason so i can't sneak a look at how they're written

I'm just about to PM midnight for some advice in the matter
