Guest benzo Posted December 10, 2003 Report Posted December 10, 2003 Took my phone out of the charger around 08h30. Since then, I have made a couple of calls, used some installed software and logged onto MSN messenger for about 5 minutes. It is now 15h50, and the battery juice levels are down to 83% -an improvement for sure! Looks like my original SPV is far more reliable and useful than the e200 that I recently returned!!!! Benzo
Guest ferret Posted December 10, 2003 Report Posted December 10, 2003 To be honest, mine's slightly worst. Off charger at 0400 one phone call, 5 min of internet. Now on 40%. Hmmmm Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest benzo Posted December 10, 2003 Report Posted December 10, 2003 I'm just curious- have u tweaked your phone so that you save more juice? If you haven't, I suggest you set backlight timeout to 5 seconds (in power management) and switch off screen saver mode. Additionally, you can remove all keypad tones and hope for the best!
Guest beersoft Posted December 10, 2003 Report Posted December 10, 2003 I've noticed about an hour's extra standby time with the update but im sure my phone or battery is broken. im down from 100% at midnight last night to 22% 19hours later (with about 30mins of calls and 2 mins of email collection) later Owen "rubbish battery, scaired to use the phone"
Guest beersoft Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 i thought i would update you guys today im down to 88% after 10 hours. with 62 hours remaining (its my program so im sure its telling fibs) it might be because its raining today but im flumexed about why the battery is good today and rubbish yesterday later Owen

I use to do this, but was fed up not being able to glance at the screen and see the time. Now I've found my watch have reverted back to "normal" power saving settings. Charged over night, off charge at 0400 again (must have been naughty in work again) and now still 91%. I'd say it's now slightly better than 1.3 update.
Guest moo_ski_doo Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 The 1.6 update seems to have made a massive difference to my battery life. I used to get about 24 hours out of my battery, 30 at a real push. It's now over 36 hours since last taking my phone off charge and I've still got almost 50% battery left  I've been using the phone a bit more than usual the last couple of days too. Looks like it should be more than a 100% increase for me. It's early days I know but it's looking good so far. I'm quite surprised by this because I was very sceptical that a software update could make much difference to a hardware performance problem.
Guest MARKUKCOUK Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 i forgot to charge mine last night, or rather the power company forgot to send electricity to our village overnight, so I expected the phone to last the morning max.... so far the SPV is still on 3 bars, and the E100 is on 2 bars.... im expecting them to last all day now
Guest superflysi Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 To be quite honest - my E100 is apalling as far as batt life concerned..... I use it s*** loads and it never lasts a day. Orange have replaced it several times... I will get the E200 as soon as I know that I can have 2 days life in the batt
Guest Jakob Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 I upgraded from 1.6.0.9 DK testedition to 1.6.4.10 DK ship-edition and the batterylife is definately reduced... Normally a would have 2 bars late in the evening, if picked from charger in the morning.. /Jakob
Guest beersoft Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 today was my good power day, i have managed to beat my 22 hour record, and at 10:00pm my phone was on 35%, still not enough to get through friday but better than a kick in the teeth. if i don't make any calls i think i can get 2 days standby, as soon as i make or recive a call im skuppered. just to wander off topic, today when i called O to moan about the battery, the nice lady told me some interesting things. don't charge it for 16 hours like the last cs rep said, it breaks things. Im not supposed to charge the phone for longer than it needs because the battery doesn't know when its full and it will break it, i shouldn't charge the phone unless the battery is empty because it has a 'memory effect'. i did laugh at her and tell her the science about Li-Ion batterys (no memory effect, it will never go 100% discharged, and when its full it stops accepting charge) i know there doing a good a job as anyone but its basic science  i'll shut up now :D all i want for endoyear drunk week is a phone that doesn't need charging every day later Owen "in my next life, im going to be a customer support rep for a telco"
Guest SmugX Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 My battery life was bad before the update, but is now even worse!?!? It used to last maybe a weekend if I was lucky (my charger & cradle is at work, so off charge at 17:30 on Friday and maybe I'd still have charge Monday morning) But, after installing the update, I took it off charge at 17:30 last night, and I got a battery low warning at 09:15 this morning - this was after 1 text message and one 5 minute incoming call last night. Perhaps my battery has been gradually deteriorating as of late, and the update is just a red herring, but this is just terrible! [Edit - I've got the original SPV, BTW] Neil.
Guest ghozd Posted December 13, 2003 Report Posted December 13, 2003 21:00h battery status: 100% activity: nothing 24:00h battery status: 97% activity: playing 1.5h solitair and listneing to the music 1:30 battery status: 75% activity: nothing 8:20 battery status: 68% activity: nothing so mine battery status is really good working have to say i'm very impressend about the change
Guest aristoBrat Posted December 13, 2003 Report Posted December 13, 2003 21:30 -- charged to 100% and removed from cradle 22:00 -- quick 5 minute call 22:30 -- 10 minute GPRS connection (next day) 14:25 -- 5 minute call .. 80% charge This better than I was getting before the update.
Guest beersoft Posted December 13, 2003 Report Posted December 13, 2003 im on replacement battery 3 and i managed 33 hours with <40mins of calls and no playing asked the big O about this and they are sending me another battery later Owen "still not impressed by the battery life"
Guest aristoBrat Posted December 14, 2003 Report Posted December 14, 2003 I don't think I've heard of MS Smartphone with a battery life that would impress. Even the i600 with its extended battery is disappointing users.
Guest jhew Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 My batt life is now absolutely atrocious! Before the update the phone wouldnt need a charge for a few days, but now, well I'm lucky if it lasts for 24 hours. I normally leave the phone in (what is now) aeroplane mode overnight as I use it as an alarm clock, but I'm lucky if it doesnt wake me up early bitching about it's battery life. One thing I've noticed.....even tho the backlight timer is set to 5 seconds, it seems to stay on for a good 30 seconds or so, even after a re-start. Most odd. That's probably got something to do with it, cos god knows how many times the light is accidentally activated while the phones rattling around in my pocket during the day. Not many I'd guess as only 1 button can activate it while it's locked, but hey, that's one of my theories.
Guest MECX Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 Do you run IMETER? That thing KILLED my battery big style. Also i found if you do a 'quickclose' (www.monolithix.org) before you lock your phone the battery life increases -----havent tested this so maybe its just my imagination ---give it a go tho.

 Hmmm. I'm pretty anal about keeping most applications closed on my e100, and I can almost always get 2 days of battery out of it. Wonder if you're on to something.

Wonder if you're on to something. I think i am now coz my phone has been on for nearly a day and the battery is still full  also i found quick close seems to free more memory (ends more processes) than the 'stop all' fucnction in the IA task manager on the new 1.6 ROM
Guest gingerninja Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 My phone now lasts 2 days after update only 1 before. WICKED
Guest zippyioa Posted January 4, 2004 Report Posted January 4, 2004 I have had an original SPV since May 2003 and in that time I have had 3 replacement batteries sent from Orange. I am currently getting no more than 24 hours out of my phone WITH NO USAGE (I've given up calling anyone to keep juice in the battery in case I REALLY need to make a call!) I have just spoken to Orange CS again, who advised me (almost 15 times in a 20 minute call) to get the latest update which they advised is 1.3.5.6 -When I explained that they have a newer update and I have it on my phone - update 1.6.1.10 - they advised me to downgrade to 1.3.5.6 as that version had a battery life improvement in it!!!??? The result of my 20 minute call was that they will send me yet another replacement battery (The fourth one I have had in seven months!)....... this I am predicting will work well (around 2 days standby before dying on me) for about a month, two at best, before reaching the same point my current one and the last 3 I have had have reached i.e giving me 24 hours standby IF I DONT USE IT! 13:00 Removed from charge at 100% battery life 08:30 Battery at 20% with no calls or phone usage 08:31 Battery and phone thrown out of a second floor window (Has anyone tried this - it may just be my imagination, but it SEEEMS to improve the battery life!) :) :D
Guest xanadu Posted January 4, 2004 Report Posted January 4, 2004 Battery Life is much worse on my SPV following the update. The problem is that after you have been using GPRS or WAP, the backlight stays on for 40 seconds, which of course drains the battery very quickly. The only cure is to power off and on again, and the SPV reverts to the 5 second backlight again. This is a major software bug.
Guest beersoft Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 I have found (after 5 batterys and another orangecare replacement E100 and another sim card) that if you let the phone run as flat that it turns its self off then charge for ages (24 hours works for me) then leave it on the desk for 3 days, it will should still have charge (not leaving it on the desk will affect your batterylife) joking aside, i have found that giving the phone a good charge and not using any of the orange plugins im now getting 2+ days out of my e100 but im not using it, but i do get 2+ (almost 3) out of my moto which i do use later Owen
