Guest mdw_cubed Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 I thought the IMEI number uniquely identified a handset. My second E200 is being exchanged today. Buzzing again, as first handset did. O asked for the IMEI number. My E200 box wasn't available so I done the *#06# shortcut to get the IMEI number. This didn't match either of the E200 boxes I have when I checked later. :? Just checked inside the phone this morning and the IMEI number matches that on the box not the one reported by *#06# Is this normal? Is there a shortcut to get the batch number as the thread Non-buzzing E200 batch numbers... let's have them! might not be recording the correct results.
Guest Will Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 does it match the number under the battery?? Just looked on mine, the imei as on box and phone, is 15 chars, on my phone when i dial *#06# i get the same 15 chars plus 01 . no idea if this is an anti clone device, or other security issue.. but at least the main numbers are there.. Will
Guest mdw_cubed Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 Ah, I only checked the numbers ended the same, I didn't check they had the same number of digits. I wrote the IMEI from the handset that went back today, but the number's at work. Mind you the replacement has a number as you describe. The phone reports an extra '01' on the end, whereas the '01' is not present behind the battery. Thanks for pointing this out. Of course, my 3rd handset also buzzes. The issue has been refered to Orange Technical Support (as several other members have reported)
Guest skyvalley Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 The public MMI command *#06# gives you the IMEI that is programmed into the phone, if the sticker doesn't match then HTC could be in a lot of trouble as it contravenes the rules that GSM handset manufacturers have to follow. However that 01 you see on the end is something to do with the programming on to the handset. It's not a problem, I was told what it was when I started working at my current employer a few years ago but I'll be dammed if I can remember the exact reason for it sorry.
Guest davy Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 skyvalley, it becomes a problem when people try the OTA unlock and it fails as the IMEI number (as shown on receipt/box) is not recognised davy.
