Upgrading Qtek 1.50.9 to new Orange UK 1.6?

I heard it's faster, and I can sure use some more speed in my OS.

Question is - about sim unlocking and de-certing, I read on msmobiles.com that if my phone's sim-free and running a rom other than OUK, it'll stay sim-free. is that true?

And is there already a way to unlock if I'm not in the UK with an Orange UK sim?

NOt too sure about the SIM lock, as i'm on Orange, but by what i hear yes it should keep it unlocked (even if it doesnt all you have to do is reenter your SIM unlock code :D).

As for decerting you can use the OTA even if you dont have an Orange SIM by using your pass through connection or see Will's post in News section http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=98422

I upgraded directly from Qtek 1.50.9.1 to Orange 1.61 without any trouble. (Upgraded from the tricolor canary screen). Simlock was still off after the upgrade.

I used the ROM patcher from Mobiljoe.de (look HERE) to decert the ROM before applying it, also worked fine.

mwille: and was it worth it, speed-wise?

or that wasn't your main object?

Yeah, I geuss it was. There's a defenate improvement in overall speed. I can't say that was my main object, I kinda always try new ROM's out of curiosity :D

Word to the wise : It all worked fine for me which does not automitically means it will for other people.. I've been reading a number of posts of folks having trouble with the upgrade. The use of the ROM patcher is at own risk one way or the other..

If you decide to go for it : good luck and once you're done : enjoy !

You are applying the update with the phone in the 3-color canary screen ?

No.. I tried with the phone asynced and in homescreen, but when trying in 3-color screen I can't get it to activesync..

oh okay... it doesn't have to have an active activesync connection, upgrading now.
