Guest benzo Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 Everywhere seems to be advertising the xbox for £129 Can you get it cheaper than that? Thanks. benzo
Guest Gorskar Posted December 14, 2003 Report Posted December 14, 2003 Dont think so, but the games bundles may vary.
Guest velocityboy Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 got my xbox for my birthday from game website, £139 with halo, timesplitters 2, moh frontline and midtown madness 3, ideal!!!
Guest benzo Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 Got my xbox from Argos yesterday: GBP139 for xbox, halo, project gotham racing, midtown madness 3, an extra controller and a steering wheel controller. Not bad me thinks! Benzo
Guest kevlar Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 Got my xbox from Gameplay over a year ago, only £400. Hardly ever use it but refuse to sell it as I'd lose so much money. ( ok, I did get the 2 free games and extra controller later ) Kevlar ( sticking with my pc for games )
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted December 20, 2003 Report Posted December 20, 2003 X-Box :) Get yourself a PS2 m8...in Silver. Got one yesterday and just about to mod. it now :D Matches the TV perfectly and IMO has the better range of games. Had an X-Box for a few months - couldnt hack the uglyness of it  or the games. Other than Halo of course whic his well worth having but the PS2 wins it for me. spacecowboy
Guest Mr_Protozoa Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 You think the silver ps2 is more attractive than the xbox?! Shame on you good sir!
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 Indeed I do - the X-Box is just....urgh :!: Silver is just sooo nice :!: :!:
Guest Mr_Protozoa Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 i admit that the XBOX is a bit portley, but the silver ps2 is just a half arsed respray. they didn't even paint the buttons or the connectors to match. Plus the ps2 looks like it belongs in the 80's anyway.
Guest SsSiIiMmM Posted December 24, 2003 Report Posted December 24, 2003 X-Box :) Get yourself a PS2 m8...in Silver. Got one yesterday and just about to mod. it now :D I read somewhere that *some* of the v9 silver ps2s stop working after 3 months or so of being modded with some types of modchips...
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted December 24, 2003 Report Posted December 24, 2003 Lol - thats the problem - you "read" it. Dont always believe what you read. I've had my orginal PS2 chipped for over 2 years with several modifications made to it and its still working. I just thought I needed a change and a newer version. Silver PS2's are version 9's and 10's and need a more robust and technically able chip. I really doubt its going to stop working after three months unless its fitted with the wrong one. I know what I've done so its ok. I'll report back in three months however :)
Guest SsSiIiMmM Posted December 25, 2003 Report Posted December 25, 2003 Ok its up to you, but I read it on a forum where "PS2 chippers" hang out. One of the dudes from there chipped my v5 PS2 with no problems and he did it very fast, I could tell he was experienced, so these people know what they are doing too and talking about... I would post the link here but I don't think many people would like me linking to those types of forums... I think it was only v9's with the problem though I don't think v10s have been around long enough to tell... If you want I can PM you the link to the page where people reported having problems...
Guest Mr_Protozoa Posted December 25, 2003 Report Posted December 25, 2003 Guys, I hate to do this but.... ps2 chipping is technically illegal and therefore probally shouldn't be discussed on MoDaCo. I think the forum T&C's forbid it.
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted December 26, 2003 Report Posted December 26, 2003 Forum Rule # 1: No posts discussing...illegal software. Firstly Im not discussing illegal software as it is not illegal to mod. your PS2 (thats hardware) .The only problem when you do is voiding the warranty.Personally I dont give a stuff becasue like I said I know what Im doing. It IS however illegal to copy games which you dont privatly own. As long as you own the original game you may make a backup of it and play that to your hearts content.
Guest kyrkesmith Posted December 26, 2003 Report Posted December 26, 2003 It is amusing how much good press the X-box gets here, compared with most places. Suppose this is a bit of Microsoft lovers forum.
Guest Taoski Posted December 26, 2003 Report Posted December 26, 2003 so. back to the thread. i am sitting here watching the wizard of oz when i could be out buying an x-box! anyone seen any good deals for the console today? tia Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest sponge Posted January 3, 2004 Report Posted January 3, 2004 I own an XBox, so I'm a little biased, but I have never liked the PS range. It's true there are more games for the PS, but 99% of them are crap! I really think most people buy them because they are just following the crowd and falling for Sony's advertising. :) Anyway, I don't want to enter into a flame fest, but I will say this...buy a pre-modded XBox. Eventually, you will want the power to explore more possibilties, eg fitting a larger HDD (again I recommend this option), multi-region DVD playback, AVI/DIVX/OGG/etc playback, copying your games to the HDD...it makes sense. :D Do a web-search for shops that sell them pre-modded. Many of them offer a warranty (as, of course, the official warranty is void).
Guest smokedog Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 I also own a modded Xbox that I bought from an online retailer for £169. I'm not a Xbox "fanboy" but its way better than a PS2, when a xbox is modded anyway. When its modded the Xbox is a totally different machine. I have upgraded my HD to 120GBs filled with loads of games, films and music.
