Guest Simon Desser Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 Oxios, the makers of the excellent "Oxios To Do List" have released a freeware app for freeing up memory:- Oxios Hibernate attempts to release as much memory as possible without damaging the internal state of the Smartphone. WM_HIBERNATE is a window message that is generated by the Windows operating system and sent to an application when system resources are running low. All applications should get the message and handle it by attempting to release as many resources as possible by unloading processes, destroying windows, or freeing up as much local storage as possible without damaging the internal state of the system. Oxios Hibernate sends this message to all applications. Recommendation: Add a Speed Dial on it! Oxios Hibernate is available now for FREE on Smartphone.net
Guest yoos Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 sounds cool! so my first question.... If I were to kill all apps with X-Bar by hitting 2 while X-Bar is up and running... will running this app help anymore?? Or is it doing the same thing?
Guest Oxios Posted December 13, 2003 Report Posted December 13, 2003 Oxios Hibernate is also available on Handango.com
Guest stohn Posted December 13, 2003 Report Posted December 13, 2003 Hi, since only a few programs (some in ROM) listen to the WM-HIBERNATE message this tool will not help very much! And note, if you start a program which requires much memory the system sends this message itself. So you don't need to send the message manually before you start a program.... I think this is just one of the other tools that are totally useless. Maik
Guest spv_dman Posted December 14, 2003 Report Posted December 14, 2003 I don't think this is useless. When you check the used memory in task managers before and after executing this software, you'll notice that it really frees up the physical memory used. However, I saw I flaw (?).... Twice already I've experienced soft resets. Never did I had that problem in the five months I'm using my SPV. I don't know if this is just coincidence but it happened when I started using Oxios Hibernate. Attention to the author. Maybe a bug :?
Guest Oxios Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 Useless or not useless, that is the question: -This freeware was created to test the behavior of our ToDo List when this message is sent, -Oxios ToDo List do release memory (close child windows, unload unused DLLs), -All softwares should handled this message. With Oxios Hibernate, developpers can test it, -OS does not seem to send this message (tested with Smartphone 2002 SDK Samples), -WM_HIBERNATE should be safe. Try it and find out for yourself. There is a new release (1.10): -PostMessage instead of SendMessage, -More info in the Message Box.
Guest Hansen Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 Just tried the new version. It works on Mio 8380 now. Just free 1.x mb of memory too. Nice little program, thank you.
Guest azamsaghir Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 I'm having trouble trying to install this on my SPV E100. Downloads ok. When I double-click on the installer I just get a black DOS box and nothing else. What is wrong? Azam
Guest Coucou Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 Nice program  Does what the smartphone is supposed to do already but never actually did. If your spv actually does this properly stohn then you're very lucky! The virtual memory manager is rubbish atm.
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 Been using Oxios Hibernate for a couple of weeks now, and it seems to clash with some of the other programs on my phone.... Sometimes the splash screen doesn't come up... although I can see that Oxios Hibernate is the last program that I've used (in the MRU list). Then after a while, if I quit certain programs (can't quite make out which...) the splash screen comes up .. sometimes several times, if I've tried to use the program again. Anyone else notice this?
Guest Coucou Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 I've got no problems with Hibernate. If my phone locks up it's normally when I try to access web pages which aren't really viewable on the SPV.

Oxios Hibernate splash screen just doesn't appear ... but then later when I quit other programs, it jumps up and frees whatever it's spose to free!! Just installed version 1.10 (which I somehow missed) .. and I'll see if that fixed it for me.
