US T-Mobile RF reception on 1.61 SPV/e100's

Has anyone in the US noticed anything about their SPV/e100's RF reception since the v1.61 upgrade?

I only used my e100 for about 5 days before the upgrade, so I might be imagining things, but it seems like the RF reception is slightly worse.

My work desk is in a bad RF area -- jumps around between 0 and 2 bars. Before the update, I'd get 99% of all of my incoming calls -- maybe 1 or 2 would go to voicemail. Since the update, it seems like only 75% of my incoming calls get thru -- I get a LOT more voicemails now.

On a side note, we're testing two T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Editions. I flashed an updated ROM onto one of them, which updated the radio stack. The updated unit, sitting right next to the original one, shows between 1-2 bars lower RF signal now. I didn't realise how much of a difference an upgrade could affect RF reception!

Was wondering if the same thing could hold true for the SPV e100 upgrade.

THANKS!

I originally thought my reception was better after the update, but after a few days of use my opinion is that it's about the same for me in the areas I frequently go to here in Florida...

My understanding is that some updates update the radio stack and some don't. And the 1.6 definitely did from what everyone is saying...

I was actually thinking my SPV is getting slightly better reception after the update. I am getting about 1 bar better everywhere I usually go. Maybe I am just imagining things though.

Maybe it's just me. Like I said, I only had it for like 4-5 days before I did the update. Plus, I live/work in a very very low signal area, so maybe I'm just now noticing some fluctuations that were always there.

Yea, I've stayed away from the update just because from what I've read, there really isn't anything I need/want in the update. My reception is perfectly fine where I live.

FWIW, despite my ambiguity about the RF, the phone (for me anyhow) is noticeably faster, and the battery is improved -- I can go almost two full days of usage without having to charge.

Wonder if there an easy way for someone to "roll back" the ROM update if they tried and it didn't like it?

I've seen a few posts here about rolling back the ROM, but I've also seen a lot of posts where they had problems rolling back the ROM as well. That's another reason why I've stayed away from the update. For me it's not worth the headache to deal with since I've seen so many complaints.

I plan on waiting for the prices to come down and bugs worked out on the phones that are shipping with Mobile 2003.

I have noticed a speed difference and my RF seems to be better. The only thing is I seemed to have gotten the GPRS bug. Takes me 4 or 5 tries to connect.

I've had that GPRS thing happen before too, but not every time.

My GPRS issues seem to have cleared up. My RF seems to have stayed the same (I'm still impressed it's doing better the my Nokia 3650). I like this rom....

I know this is a little off topic for this post, but since I see some US T-Mobile people I though I'd ask. I'm gettin a qtek 7070 next week, and wanted to upgrade it to the latest orange ROM. I just wanted a quick affirmation.

After I upgrade the ROM, I'll need to use SPVUnlock2 to Sim Unlock the phone, then I'll need to use No Warez.exe to unlock the application certification. Is this correct? Will this get my phone back on the TMobile system?

Also does upgrading to the latest ROM muck with the GPRS settings. If so does anyone know the correct setting for Tmobile US.

Thanks

My Orange SPV e100 came SIM unlocked. Doing the upgrade did NOT relock the SIM, so I can't really speak to what's required to unlock it.

I un-app locked mine thru Orange's developers web page. It just seemed cleaner to me to do it that way.

The ROM update will erase all of your GPRS connections and create a lot of Orange ones. On my e100, I deleted EVERY connection (Dial-Up, VPN, Proxy, GPRS) and created one new GPRS connection:

Description: t-zones

Connects to: The Internet

Access point: wap.voicestream.com

User name:

Password:

Primary DNS:

Secondary DNS:

IP address:

I also set the Internet Connection to Automatic so it will use Pass-thru while in the cradle, and t-zones for GPRS.

Oh, the access point I used is good for the "FREE WAP" and both t-zones plan. If you have the $19.99/mo Internet plan, you need to use internet2.voicestream.com or internet3.voicestream.com

Good luck!

I upgraded my SPVx and have noticed somewhat more radio sensitivity than before, along with better battery life.

At my office most of my coworkers and I are on T-Mobile. Lately we've noticed that we'll completely lose our GSM/GPRS signal during some days. It is almost as if the BTS antenna is misaligned or moves in the breeze!

The phone seems to be more responsive too. I am pleased that I took a gamble on the QTEK upgrade.
