Guest smeg36 Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 Ok, I have a question about using the T-Mobile GPRS as access for my notebook. I have the USB modem driver and everything setup for use with my phone. I have been able to successfully use dialup with a CSD connection. I want to setup for use with GPRS though. I am at a loss here. Is there a number I am supposed to enter as the dialup number? I noticed in the thread about using the SPV with Orange, there was a number string you enter into the dialup section. What is this with T-Mobile. Can anyone help me with this?
Guest smeg36 Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 Ok, I found on their site that you put *99# as the nuber to dial. It is working, and I can connect to the internet but I get a CSD connection icon on the phone and not the G for GPRS. Anyone know why this is happening? On the site it says this is supposed to connect to GPRS, but I am only getting the 9.6kbps like I would with CSD, and not the 56k of GPRS with T-Mobile. Help please?
Guest martin Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 Here is a SPV modem topic in the articles section that might help. http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=2361 I imagine that the T-mobile settings would be the following Dialup *99# String=+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet2.voicestream.com","",0,0 or String=+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet3.voicestream.com","",0,0 or String=+cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com","",0,0
Guest yoos Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 Anyone get this to work correctly with T-Mobile in the USA using GPRS? I used the exact instructions jtsaint mentions here (9th post down): http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=2361...light=usb+modem The only changes I made was the following: - Instead of +cgdcont=1,"IP","orangeinternet","",0,0 I entered +cgdcont=1,"IP","internet3.voicestream.com","",0,0 (I also tried AT+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet3.voicestream.com","",0,0) - I went to IE explorer internet options/connections, selected the settings for the connection I created and entered 216.155.165.50 in the proxy box. When I dial up the connection it says I am connected at 230.4 Kbps, but everything isn't working correctly. My Yahoo and AOL IM's say they are connected and I can see someone online with AOL, but I can't use MSN IM or browse IE (standard Page cannot be displayed message). I have the two little arrows pointing away from each other in the top right above the coverage indicator (instead of a small G) on my phone. Any ideas??? Thanks!
Guest yoos Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 I also just tried the changes mentioned in the PowerPoint located here: http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=8957...light=usb+modem just changing the IP addresses to the ones I use to connect to T-Mobile (216.155.165.50 and 216.155.165.51). This didn't work either... :P
Guest yoos Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 After reading many posts I've finally got this to work!!! :P :D I will try and post in detail what I did if someone will find it useful...
Guest smeg36 Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 I would love to know what you did. It would not only help get the faster connection for my laptop, it may also help me finally get it working with my Toshiba E800. Thanks.
Guest yoos Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 These are my current settings, which are working as I write this post (these would be changed after you install the modem driver on your PC/laptop)... - I am running XP (professional to be specific) Under the modem properties in the control panel: - (modem tab) Max port speed = 115200 and wait for dial tone is deselected - (advanced tab) extra initialization commands = AT+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet3.voicestream.com","",0,0 Under the properties for the dial-up I created on the PC for GPRS - (general tab) Ensure the Voyager modem you installed is the one listed at the top under Connect using: The area code is blank, number to dial is *99# and use dialing rules is deselected - (security tab) typical radio button is selected with allow unsecured password chosen. nothing else is selected. - (networking tab) under PPP:.... settings only the first two are selected. Under the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties both automatic radio buttons are selected. - (advanced tab) nothing is selected Under IE internet options (connection tab) - select the dial-up you created and hit Set Default - choose 'Always dial my default connection' Now for connecting to the net: - Under active sync connection settings ensure you have the allow usb deselected. - Go to the modem link on your phone, select usb, hit menu and activate - connect the phone to your pc via usb - Open IE (if necessary type a web address to go to) - A box should pop up and your GPRS dial-up should be selected. just hit connect and wait... Let us know if it works!!
Guest smeg36 Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 I wish I had a cell signal at home to try this with. I will have to wait until tomorrow to test it out. Thanks for the settings, I will let you know how it goes (although I will be using a MPx200 instead of a SPV. I got rid of that a long time ago!).
