Guest solo Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 Oi, You useless sons of [expleted deleted]*, where the hell is the backup tool for the update? *Refering to Orange Didn't O state that it would be available sometime this week? Maybe you thought that when they said "week commencing 15th" they meant on the Monday... Solo
Guest hk Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 It should mean on Monday, or they should specify a release date. Otherwise we are likely to be waiting till next month, knowing what O are like with release dates. Could even be late next year, anytime from the 15th onwards... oh the lottery that is Orange.
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 The backup/update facility for the 1.6 update :?: I had that working on the day of the update and had my contacts back on it in no time atall.
Guest HurricaneDave Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 nah! he means the ipsm backup thats due out this week,, backs up your phone so you dont lose all you apps and games when you update
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 D'oh - yeh "week commencing 15th" Good luck guys
Guest hk Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 Bets on how long we will be waiting? Anyway the mods can ask MrOrange directly?
Guest drblow Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 Mr. who?? Oh yeah, thinking back into the mists of time ... I remember ...
Guest hk Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 Bleh, did the update anyway, will just manually restore everything.
Guest MECX Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 i think most people jsut did the update anyway---you dont loose much really--bout time my phone had a clean out anyway
Guest usrhlp Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 i have checked their site every day since the 15th and alas NOTHING! Still i have emailed them twice and see what is happening. I am thinking of updating away! All you have to do is copy and paste EVERYTHING from the memory card to your hd and then stick it back afterwards! w0w00w0
Guest Disco Stu Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 :!: Surely it's the IPSM back-up that is the problem :!: SD back-up is obviously straight-forward but it's the rest that causes all the grief. Or am I missing something ?
Guest HurricaneDave Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 :!: Surely it's the IPSM back-up that is the problem  :!:  SD back-up is obviously straight-forward but it's the rest that causes all the grief. Or am I missing something ? no you are not missing anything at all :!: backing up the sd card alone is not enough even if ALL of your apps and games are installed on the sd card for them to function after the update you need all the files/folders from ipsm backing up and also you need to backup you registry  as the update does'nt affect you sd card all you need to backup is ipsm etc etc which the orange backup tool will do (WHEN it gets released  ) 15th march anyone??
Guest Disco Stu Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 Cheers Dave As I'll be upgrading to the E200 later today and only keeping the Canary as a test-bed / reserve, I'm thinking it's hardly worth the bother ! Then again, when it comes I'll be twitching to give it a go
Guest mantrac Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 Once again, Orange have delivered a half-patch that wipes everything off your phone, doesn't deliver all the goods (GPRS problem still there!) and really does too little too late... I have ordered a P900 and am putting my SPV on eBay... So long headaches! Hello usability and reliability! Why change from a Mercedes to a Suzuki just because it comes with a built-in MP3 player?
Guest solo Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 Orange clearly state on their web site that the back up tool will be ready this week. They also state very clearly that the upgrade must only be applied if you have used the back up tool. They also state that failure to use use the back up tool before the updeate will result in lost data. It is now Friday 19th at 16:51 and there is no sign of the back up tool. What the badword do Orange think they are doing? They announce that a new update is available that will fix a number of long outstanding bugs. Further more they recommend waiting for the back up tool, and announce that the back up tool will be available week commencing 15th, but then decide not to do badword all about it... Is this what customer service is all about? Of course I could have applied the update earlier, but their web site specifically advised against it and specifically advised waiting for the back up tool... Customer service my arse... Maybe Mr Orange would like to come back and explain what is going one... But somehow I don't think he will... Solo
Guest solo Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 I like the way sware words are replaced by the word "badword" exect for the word arse... Orange is arse, run by arses, arse arse arse arse arse badword
Guest HurricaneDave Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 Orange is arse, run by arses, arse arse arse arse arse badword :D :D :D  :D :) :D :D :D :D :D
Guest hk Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 Ah well I just did the update anyway, phone needed a clean install of everything... not really something that should be said about a phone. Am still looking to sell it! The update didnt take off that damn annoying "BING" you get when you add a contact to a text message.
Guest darkside Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 I wont be holding my breath for the 10th Dec I can remember the original spv update ( what a farce that was ) Orange could,nt string a line of words together to make a respectable sentence, so don't get your hope up on this update guys, if the original so called update is anything to go by. " Orange could,nt tie their shoelaces together, they made a right cock up of the download and install procedure on that update. And they forgot to mention that the update would,nt work on windows me and any other operating system before that. I have lost all faith in Orange and their staff HAVING NOW COME TO THE END OF MY CONTRACT WITH THEM I CAN HONESTLY SAY I,M GLAD TO BE OUT FROM UNDER THEIR SERVICE. well i did warn you guys
Guest mcwarre Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 arses, arse arse arse arse arse badword :) Horse arse, b0ll0cks!
Guest HurricaneDave Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 Horse arse, b0ll0cks! why a horses arse :?: :?: should we be concerned :?: :)
Guest idavid Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 chill boys. in my opinion orange did us all a favour by releasing the update before the update facitily was ready (clearly due to consumer demand). i am sure the ipsm update will come, eventually, and be very useful anyway, in fact it is not even late, assimung it might be released over the weekend. why bother winging about it yet?? at least wait till monday!! quite franky (running new 1.6...) the update doesnt change all that much!! but hey, its pretty good seeing how orange dont actually need to do anything!
Guest mcwarre Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 why bother winging about it yet?? Ain't whinging tbh, I don't care. I dropped the SPV as quick as it's OS needed a reboot, very quickly (after 7 (SEVEN) replacements I hasten to add)).
