Guest Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 Hello, some questions regarding the Qtek 8080: 1. Difference between Qtek 8080 – SPV E200 – I-Mate SP2: Are there – except for optical – any significant technical differences ? Is it true that the I-Mate has built in a “weaker” processor ? Is this handset design currently sold under any other brand name ? 2. Manufacturer/Assembler/Distributor(s)/main webpage: Manufacturer is obviously for all 3 makes HTC. Correct ? Does anyone know if HTC has a homepage offering more information than its “promo” site www.htc.com.tw ? Is there any ftp ? Who is doing the final assembly (for the Qtek 8080, SPV and I_Mate) ? Who are the big distributors ? (At least for Europe this seems to be Dangaard. On their page, however, you cannot find anything about the Qtek.) Who is the distributor for the Asian market ? Are there any official product pages on the web for these handsets (Qtek 8080, SPV2, I_mate SP2) ? 3. Firmware versions / compatibility: Which are the current Firmware versions of the (a) Qtek 8080, ( SPV E200, © I-Mate SP2 ? Are the firmware versions of these devices compatible, i.e. can one fror the Qtek 8080 be used on an SPV E200 and vice versa ? 4. User / Service Manual / FCC Files: Where can the User Manual of the Qtek 8080 be downloaded ? Has anyone already got the Technical Service Manual ? (From various Nokia makes for instance these have already found their ways into the internet.) As the US FCC has to certify any electronic device sold in the US, does anyone know a link on their website where to find their test documents ? (Afaik there has once been a link to documents on the 7070.) 5. Bluetooth Modem Bug: I think this deplorable bug can be found in all “identical” makes (8080, SPV2, i-mate SP2). Does anyone know if this is a bug of the firmware, of Windows Mobile, or a combination of both or – even worse – a hardware bug ? Most interesting would be to know if this bug also affects other Windows Mobile Smartphones, such as the new Motorola or the Mitac. Has anyone details on that ? (Specifically I’d like to know if the Mitac and the Motorola – both clamshell types – are also not able to establish GPRS connects for an iPAQ 555x via BT.) 6. Accessories: Where can I buy accessories for a Qtek 8080 ? Any websites ? Are the batteries used in the Qtek 8080, the SPV E200 (from Orange) and the I-Mate SP2 identical and interchangeable ? Can the batteries from the predecessors (7070, E100, I-mate SP1) be used and will they fit ? Is there any external charger on the market which can charge a second battery ? (It is no secret that the Qtek and its clones have an enormous hunger for power…) Will the Qtek lose its settings if (of course the clock setting will be gone) if you remove its battery, e.g. to set in a replacement battery ? (If you do that with your iPAQ you have to be rather fast not to lose the settings.) 7. Charging the Qtek with an iPAQ charger ? Both chargers are identical from the output voltage, as they are from the plugs, but not from the pin-out. I suppose that the circular plug at the end of the charger line will also fit into that typical flat connector, we know from the iPAQs. This connector can be purchased separately on the internet. If you ensure a correct pin-out would it be possible to use only one charger for the iPAQ and the Qtek ? The advantage would be: you can leave one charger at home if you take both iPAQ and Qtek with you on vacation. Has anyone experimented with this ? Can anyone verify that this is possible ? 8. Contact persons for technical inquiries, Product Manager: Are there any contact persons at the manufacturer or elsewhere ? Any news forums from the manufacturer ? (As I’m no Orange customer I am not so much interested in an Orange forum.) 9. Netmonitor: Is there already any „leak“ software allowing the activation of the Netmonitor ? (As for Nokia handsets it was not too long before such software tools made their way into the internet and even for the Nokia 7650, a Symbian make though, there is software out for activating the NM.) 10. „Community pressure“ onto the manufacturer: The “community” (i.e. we as the consumers) should address the manufacturer/distributors as a group in order to claim quick bug-fixes, support etc. Hence it would be good to know in advance what caused these very serious errors in the Qtek. Like the mentioned Bluetooth connection error. Lobbying always makes sense ;-) However it is not possible to do lobbying without knowing the contact persons (see above). Admittedly this is a very long mail. However I think it contains much of the “open issues”, at least in a very general overview. I hope my mail will cause a huge thread, many follow-up postings and – which should be the prime goal – profound answers. People from the manufacturer or from distributors are invited to participate. No one must “out” himself. Information is what counts :-) Regards Gerhard My email contact: [email protected]
