Guest seaflipper Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 Did any of you hear about the Loudeye Technolgies/Microsoft/AT&T Wireless press releases today? http://www.loudeye.com (notice the nice placement of the MPx200) http://www.loudeye.com/digitalmedia/soluti...s/wmrelease.asp Next year, AT&T Wireless plans to be the first wireless carrier in North America to introduce a compelling mobile music offer utilizing Loudeye services and the Windows Media 9 Series platform. The company plans to integrate the online music store experience with all of AT&T Wireless' mMode™ capable phones, including the Motorola MPX200 Smartphone, enabling mobile users to discover and purchase music ranging from ringtones to full-length songs. In other words, the MPx200 on the AT&T network is going to be able to download songs via GPRS, that is full Windows Media 9 songs, it's going to be iTunes on GPRS basically. Personally, I could really care less about being able to do that, but since the MPx200 currently has Windows Media 7 installed on it's ROM (and NO DRM), AT&T is going to have to offer a ROM upgrade to 2003 since it's only on 2003 that Windows Media Player 9 resides? The rumors have been February, and with the Loudeye announcement today, this is looking more and more like the real thing!
Guest smeg36 Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 They could charge for it. I didn't see any implication that it would be free. All I got was that it would be possible to get WMP9 on the MPx200, which would imply that you would be able to get 2003 as that is the only way to get WMP9. I don't see why it would be free though. Every other upgrade I have every seen in mobile OS have cost around $30.

My guess is that they will give it for free because they are supposed to be fixing the caller id problem with the US MPx200 and this is going to come in the form of a ROM upgrade. Even so, I would pay $30 for the upgrade!
