Guest dom Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 ...in their MPx200? Does it work. I'm considering ordering one from the States, but don't want to order it and find that it won't work with the MPx when it reaches me in UK! Thanks.
Guest Bonzo Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 Don't see any reason why it shouldn't work... I'm running a regular sandisc 256Mb card and that's fine!!!
Guest goudvarken Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 This One Runs Faster But I Don't Know What speed the spv is capppable of reading so if thats the speed of the normal sd than the ultra sd doesnt do anything special shall have a look for you
Guest dom Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 The ultra II is meant to be 65 times faster at memory reads and writes than the standard one. Apparently mainly designed for 4+ megapixel digital cameras. But the advantage in a smartphone would be fairly significant too. I wouldn't genuinely expect to see a 6500% performance increase, but areas where I'd hope to see improvement would be: 1) Faster opening of applications installed to memory card 2) Better performance for video and music stored on sd card Obviously you can't make the phone run any faster, but if you make the bottleneck of the memory bus to the SD card 'wider' then applications that require frequent memory reads/writes will perform better because they can spend more time processing and less time waiting to receive data (when, for example either loading something, or when you are reading something that wont fit into available RAM in one go). I'd envisage the effect to be similar to installing a faster hard-drive into a desktop PC system (e.g. more RPM, larger cache). For some things it will make a massive difference, for others it will make almost no difference.

Not sure if this also applies to the Moto and whether the Moto is compatible with the same SD cards that the SPV is (I've read that each phone can have problems with certain SD cards). I'd assume that the 'bus' used for SD cards is standard and that there was some room allowed for improvement in speed of SD cards compared to what would be available at the launch of the standard.
Guest goudvarken Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 Hmmmm You Don't Even Need My Help  well i have a normal sd-card. So Don't know If it works But Think it will
Guest nevrbeenmastrd Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 i own a sandisk ultra II 256MB card and used it in a side-by-side comparison with the standard sandisk 256MB card. and I also own a mpx200. there is no difference when playing music files, but video files are less likely to jerk if you encode them at higher bitrates.
Guest mcwarre Posted December 18, 2003 Report Posted December 18, 2003 i own a sandisk ultra II 256MB card and used it in a side-by-side comparison with the standard sandisk 256MB card. Is there a noticeable difference when transfering data to the cards? It used to bug me how slow the normal Sandisk was at writing large files.... TVM
Guest Shuflie Posted December 18, 2003 Report Posted December 18, 2003 There is if you use a USB cardreader to transfer stuff, did a back up onto both a 256MB sandisk SD and a 256MB sandisk Ultra II SD card, you wouldn't believe be if I told you the difference it makes. The Ultra II card told me it would take 3 mins to complete and roughly 3.5 mins later it was finished. The ordinary Sandisk card started of saying 3 min, then 5, then 10 stayed around 12 for a while, I got fed up waiting and went to make a cup of coffee. One kettle boiling time and three filghts of stairs up and down later it still wasn't finished. Just left it copying in the background while I browsed the web so I can't say for sure when it finished but there is definitely an advantage to be gained from the Ultra II cards.
