Guest Terrapin Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 i really like the orange e200 homescreen as it is but dont have a use for some of the links provided, is there any way to change the code a little to point the unused links to programs i regularly use? ie. is the orange homescreen .xml file on the phone somewhere for me to backup and fiddle with? i dont really want to make a new .xml from scratch as i imagine it will be difficult to implement the "most recently used" bar at the bottom of the screen. also, how big (pixel wise) is the background area excluding the top and bottom info bars? im converting some of my photo collection to use as background images. many thanks in advance!
Guest NickB&SPV Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 The .XML files are in Windows on the phone. Just sync your phone up to your computer and copy it across, you can then edit it in wordpad etc. Put the edited file in IPSMApplication DataHome. Make sure you change the titlle name in the XML and save it as that name or it won't be picked up when you come to choose it as your homescreen. (There are other posts about this in Customisation) The screen size is 176 wide x 200 high. (Pixels) Hope this helps NickB.
Guest Terrapin Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 hi, thanks for the help. i've found an OrangeHomescreen.home.xml in the /Windows directory, but i get an error message when i try to copy it out of the directory when using either activesync or AllExplorer on the phone. the error message says something along the lines of not being allowed to copy out of the ROM. i also cant open the .xml file in notepad (via the PC) or NotBad (on the phone). it seems to be locked solid, i can see the file but i cant do a thing with it. thanks for any more help anyone may have.
Guest drblow Posted December 20, 2003 Report Posted December 20, 2003 You could take the xml from my skin here. You can then edit it any way you like - theres even some instructions in the thread!
Guest Terrapin Posted December 20, 2003 Report Posted December 20, 2003 thanks - nice skin, but im just looking to edit the Orange homescreen. wonder how on earth i could get at the xml file on my phone, i know its there i just can't access it, argh!
Guest scott_donald Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 thanks - nice skin, but im just looking to edit the Orange http://smartphone.MoDaCo.com/viewtopic.php?t=714>homescreen. wonder how on earth i could get at the xml file on my phone, i know its there i just can't access it, argh! its straight off the rom not in ipsm....
Guest Terrapin Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 I know, when i try to copy the .xml file out of the ROM it gives me an error saying that i'm not allowed to copy out of the ROM. so how the hell do i get access to the file? or has anyone got it off the ROM and would be willing to email me it?
Guest lutzh Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 if its part of the rom then you have to use an explorer ON the device. get resco explorer for smartphone (trial should be enough), copy the file from windows to storagecard and then you can get it there with active sync and copy it over to the desktop.... cheers, lutz
Guest Terrapin Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 ive tried copying it using Smart Explorer but to no avail, it gives an error "unable to copy file" (no further reason given). i cant be the only person who's wanted to edit the orange homescreen can i?
Guest lutzh Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 ok, buddy- then we make it simple for you ;-) Pauls orange homescreen modification and the original e200 homescreen for download in this thread! cheers, lutz
