Guest Will Posted December 17, 2002 Report Posted December 17, 2002 HELP Has anyone (or is it even possible) to refer to the smartphone from windows? ie mobile deviceIPSM etc from the desktop etc? Tried most combo's i can think of.. but no dice?? Will
Guest kevlar Posted December 17, 2002 Report Posted December 17, 2002 I don't know how it got there, but my smartphone appears in the ' my computer ' list of drives, below my hard drives/cd drives/floppy/network drives, under the heading ' other '. I can access the phone directly this way, although I hadn't thought of doing anything this way until I read this question and remembered seeing the smartphone icon in ' my computer. I am running XP Pro, and my pc is networked through a router/firewall to my other pc and cable modem. Obviously I have a network set up so maybe this is why the smartphone appears on my list. Hope I read your question right. Kevlar
Guest kevlar Posted December 17, 2002 Report Posted December 17, 2002 just ran a little test and dropped a homepage jpeg into the phone through ' my computer ', the active sync transfer box popped up just as if I'd used active sync so there doesn't seem to be anything gained by doing it this way. Why did you want to know anyway? Kevlar
Guest Will Posted December 17, 2002 Report Posted December 17, 2002 Yeah you're on the right lines, i can type 'mobile device' into windows explorer, and i get to the phone, but try to build a desktop shortcut to the home directory???? Any solutions / input gratefully recieved.
Guest madu Posted December 17, 2002 Report Posted December 17, 2002 I'm all the way with you Will (love it too)!! I need a quick way to access the bugge, but cannot make a shortcut for it.. Turned myself insideout trying to build one, but still no joy.. I have a sure way to the solution though!! Apparently you can have 'Control Panel' wherever you want (not a shortcut) by creating a link with a string somewhat like this: ..........CLSID{49BF5420-FA7F-11cf-8011-00A0C90A8F78} ?? the registry path to the Mobile Device key and i guess system shortcut is: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSID{49BF5420-FA7F-11cf-8011-00A0C90A8F78} Now, someone must know how to run these things.. either rundll32.exe ..... or something.
Guest madu Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Right!! We're getting there. Create a FOLDER on your desktop and name it: Mobile Device.{49BF5420-FA7F-11cf-8011-00A0C90A8F78} This will create the same folder as in your computer.. You can create such folder wherever you want I guess.. That's that cut down by 1 (big) step.. Any ideas on further development??
Guest cdwilkinson Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Heres My Solution Goto the Folder You Require In The Smart Phone E.G IPSM Then On The Toolbar Hit Favorites Add To Favorites Goto Toolbar Again Hit Favorites Organise Favorites Scroll to The One You Just Created Right Click It Copy Close Right Click Blank Part Of Desktop And Paste. The You Go One Shortcut To Your Folder, Create As Many As You Like. :D :(
Guest Will Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 anyone fancy sending me a copy of the shortcut they made? (pref to ipsm/app data/home) so i can see if it is device specific? Will
Guest madu Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 This is what it shows in notepad when you edit s/cut. copy&p. it from *** to *** including spaces, excluding *** (so there are 6 spaces at the end). [shortcut removed] see if it works - looks like a load of system gibberish - must work! [Edited] SORRY, html/bbphp changes the string, will not work!!
Guest Will Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 ok i got a shortcut emailed, clicked it. worked first time.. :D easy! (and thanks guys!)
