it wont work m8, the smartphone os has to be adapted to each fone, each manufacturer has a unique ROM for updates, it doesnt work like windows, where one cd works on all pcs.

u'll just have to w8 until mitac get an update...

sorry!

Try this site

There is a ROM update from Mitac and I think it contains the MSN Messenger update.

Only works for Mitac 8380 models in Hong Kong and taiwan though. If yours is sourced from there, then it should work fine. Mine doesn't work as I have a different version.

You need the original rom to be able to upgrade.

So if you have the hacked rom this update wont worked.

Click on the link above. You have to register as a VIP member as Mitac have to make sure you are the owner of the phone by entering your serial number. Very tedious.

Btw, it's not Japanese. It's traditional Chinese.

You have to sign up as a VIP member. Just click on any of the download files, you will be asked to login. On the left navbar, click on the first link. It's the signup form. Agree to the conditions, then select "VIP....."

After that, fill in Name, Username, Password, Confirm Password, Gender, Birthdate, Salary Income, Occupation, Address, E-mail, IC Number, etc. Just simply fill in and try your luck. Only the username and password have to be correct. The other, don't bother. Just don't leave the fills blank.

If you see a field called SN something, enter your device's serial number (can be found behind the battery).

Login and download the required files on the link above.

If your serial number is 1.0.39.7073

it means that you have to download the file which says

›’ì‹ÆŒn“—RR39¡‹‰“ž R42

Make sure your phone is connected to the charger.

Unzip the files and load them onto IPSM / Windows / Start Menu /

There should be three files (OPERATOR , LANG , OEM )

In your phone, go to Programs and click on the files.

A white screen showing the status of the upgrade will display.

Do not interrupt the process until it's complete.

Do the same for the other two files.

After successfully completing the upgrade, switch off the phone.

Then, perform a Hard Reset (hold record button and ON button until keypad flashes twice)

Tell us the results. I'm sorry, this is my best translation from the Mitac site. I can't read Chinese either.

P.S.

Mitac is committing one big mistake. They are alienating users who do not read Chinese. The online support is available only in its Chinese website and I suppose the service hotline would be operated by only "Chinese-speaking" technicians. So much for globalisation. Don't Taiwanese and Chinese companies realize that their products do not only sell in their home country?
