DialUp Connection Setting in imate 7070

Hello All...

Been going nuts trying to figure this out for the last 4 days. I'm trying to setup a dial up networking connection on my 7070. I think I've managed to narrow down the problem to the actual connection number. I'm in the UAE, where there is only ONE ISP, Etisalat. They have a uniqu number access number which can be used anywhere in the country, without any access code. The number is a non geographic number (liek 0845 in the UK) without any dialling code, - 4004444. The problem is, the imate's dialup setup screen has three separate field for Country code, Dialling Code and phone number, and you have to fill in values for atleast the country code (which is +971) and the telephone number. If you leave the country code blank, sometimes, the phone doenst let u save the connection settings, others, it arbitrarily adds 0 as the conntry code. As a test, I dialled 4004444 on the mobile, and I heard the familiar modem beeps, then I tried +9714004444, the phone doenst do anything, no connection attempt can be heard.

So, basicaly, If I enter +971 in the country code, I know the phone wouldn't connect, If i leave it blank, the phoen would automatically add 0 as the value.

I've tried both and whenever I try to connect to the net, I get a msg saying unable to connect. as a further test, I modified the dialup connection settings to my home number, i.e. +971 for country code, 2 for Dialling code, and 62XXXX for the phone number, then when I tried accessing a webpage, my home phone started ringing.

I've checked with our sole ISP and they say that is the only access number they have.

Does anyone know a way around this?. Is there a registry key which i can modify to have just 4004444 as the number, without the prefix country and city code.??.

Further, I know dialup netwoking works on out GSM network (and more specifically, my GSM Sim) becuse i used to have a SE T610 before and I used to check my POP emails on it using the same network settings.

Petbro,

Thanks for the respone, but as I explained in my post, the ISP doenst accpet ANY code with the number, its a non georgaphic number 4004444 accesible from any city in the country.

In PocketPC phones, theres a settign where U can specify your location. If you're at home location and dial an ISP number with the same codes, the dialup connection onyl dials the number part of the full nuber, the country and city codes are ignored, I couldnt find any such setting in the Smartphone.

Maybe there is some registry key which can be modified to (On PPC, the code is soemthign like +EFG).

JD1,tell me about it Bro, I've spent the last week scourign the net, jsug can't find any information to fix this.

Thanks

I would hae thought the settings would be

Country Code: 971

Area Code:

Phone Number: 4004444

I have dialled +9714004444 from the UK and connect to the modem OK.

If you dial +9714004444 then I would have thought that your mobile network would strip off the +971 in analysis. You should be able to dial it. Have you tried it using another network operator ?

A similar dialup was used on the Vodaphone Ireland network in this topic here.

Country code :353

Dialing code:

Phone number 872292222

Thats the funny part, from abroad, +9714004444 works (I verified this by calling this number from my PC2Phone service, and could hear the modem connect), but from within the UAE, theres no joy. I have no option of trying another network operator cos Etisalat, the national telecoms company has a monopoly and there are no competitors.

rizsher,

Been trying many options but no luck - does anyone out there have sample setups used for access other than Vodaphone / Orange - we need exaples of ordinary ISP's.

Any Aussies having success with the unlocked QTEK 7070 ?

Cant understand this as I used to be able to connect to the WEB & email account with my Sony-Erricson T39 to my Pocketpc then later to my Sony NZ90 via Bluetooth no problem - this should be easier ?!?

Is there some basic dial-up setting that conflicts with data connections as I can get to my ISP by just dialling the base number (get the modem skreetching sound) but when via data connection / Internet Explorer I get 'Error - Unable to connect ' after just 15 seconds of trying to connect.?!?

Any help greatly appreciated,

Regards, JD1

I have been proposed a solution at http://www.ppcw.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=889 , can't verify it at the moment, try it out and let us know... cheers..

I created the following dialup and checked the digits received at the mobile exchange.

Dialup =

Country code: 12

Dialling code: 345

Phone number: 6789

With location set to 1 the digits received were 123456789

With location set to 2 the digits received were 6789

So YES, it does work :)
