Guest farina Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 I have just receiver the special "developer" package from Orange, which includes an SPV e200 (already SIM-unlocked) and two CDs: one is the Microsoft Embedded Visual C 4.0 with proper add-ons for the Smartphone 2003, the other is the infamous CD containing the DCU utility. As already reported by others, the DCU gives an error message after attempting to download the phone's configuration. I suppose that the DCU utility supplied on the CD is out-of-date, the phone seems to be equipped with firmware "too new" for it... Without DCU, I did not manage even to connect to the GPRS network: my phone is actually just a voice-only GSM... :) Nor I managed to use it as an USB modem for my notebook... And, of course, also the Bluetooth Activesync connection does not work (although Activesync connects correctly through the USB cable and through IR). If I do not find solutions to these problems quickly, I am seriously thinking to send it back to Orange and deny the credit-card approval for their charge... Anyone has got the same problems? Any hints or pointers which could help? Bye! Angelo Farina
Guest lutzh Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 hi there, this is known. i have somehow a working dcu.exe here (i attache it on this post). its a german version but you will be able to go through i guess since the wording for gprs/isp/passport and so on is the same. try your luck with it, it will not destroy anything. let me know if it works for you - i just checked it again and its works with my ora e200 dev kit... let me know if it works for you. cheers, lutz
Guest farina Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 Hi Lutz, Thanks for Your help... I tested the German DCU, but it makes exactly the same problem on my E200. After attempting to connect, the completion bar runs up to 2nd step, and then the "Failed" message appears next to it (actually it says "Fehler" in the German version). I suppose that the firmware of my E200 is not compatible with current DCU executables (either in German or in English).... The DCU executable supplied on my CD is dated 15/04/2003, exactly as Yours.. So I suppose it is the very same version, just a different language... In April 2003 the E200 had not been released yet, I suppose... Anyone here has a newer version ??? Bye! Angelo Farina

Guest eross Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 I have also tried copying from the CD etc. No joy. I thought DCU was produced by Microsoft but can't even find a mention of it anywhere on their site. At least I am not alone :)
