MS MOBILES WROTE:

'Secrets of short cellphone battery life in Orange SPV E200 (aka HTC Voyager) revealed

December 22, 2003 [smartphone]

... and also tips how to prolong cellphone battery life of your Orange SPV E200 phone 2 to 3 times!

Why cellphone battery life in Orange SPV E200 (aka HTC Voyager) is short? After emperical tests it was found out that the SD card controller is not implemented correctly and if you have an SD card inserted it sucks battery much much more than without SD card inside.

What is the remedy? Simply remove the SD card from the slot but (WARNING!) you need to remove also the plastic dummy from the slot! In this way you will get 2 to 3 times longer cellphone battery life in your smartphone!

Here is a quote from analysis of one of disgruntled users (lutzh):

well then: double the standby time of your e200. how? remove the storage card. and dont put the dummy in.

want to bet it works? shure! why? because the card controller is not implemented correctly by htc. really? yes. do they know about it? probably. you can find a tool called SDCARDBusControl (WindowsSDCARDBusControl.exe, © BSQUARE 2002, Shutdown utility, Produktname: SDIO) in the rom of your e200 (you cant find it by using active sync but you´ll see it with resco explorer on your e200). why should this be there if not for the case that htc thought it needs it but found out that it locks up the phoen once you use the parameter -x designed for shutting down the card bus. so to me its obviouse that htc knows about the card bus problem. they´ve simply copy/pasted the parameters for the card bus from the software development kit or erased the parameters after they found out it doesnt work. that means that the bus controller even runs when you put the dummy in that came with your e200.

so its very clear that not the bluetooth is the sucker but a card in the slot of the e200. try it. i took out all cards and now i have 3 days standby with the e200 even if i use bt for 2 hrs./day in my car for the free speech kit.

so, dear htc: sit down and do your homework! this error belongs to you and nobody else!!! hope you read this.'

Is this the case with the MPx200????

Not experianced poor battery life with the MPX but if someone wants to

test this I'd like to hear the results.

Even playing gnuboy for a few hours a day, the battery still lasts two days :)

I'd test it out, i need a battery monitor though. Know of any good free ones??

... and by the way: i am never disgruntled in any way. never was and never will be. not because of a sd card that sucks my phones battery off.

don't know who called me this - i guess it was msmobiles...

cheers, lutz

So "msmobiles" reveals the "secrets" of the SD Card problem and writes about them, a day or so after they were discussed here, hmm

and then copies a usenet post.

And basically it seems he is trying to pass it all off as his own story, and work.

give him a chance, folks. its good to have a loud speaker some times. otherwise your calls may not be heard in rush hour. and if you dont like him then laugh about him. but no use of the same strategy...

i just wanted to make clear that i love my voyager. no matter how often i have to charge it.

cheers, lutz
