Guest mwille Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 Whoops... kinda screwed up my reg setting for HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Shell/StartMRU... No matter what shortcuts I enter in the InitialOrder value the homescreen shows very weird MRU icons with even weirder text... Happened after using the CeRegedit tool from Microsofts Windows CE tools to edit one of the shortcuts.. Anybody experienced this ?
Guest mwille Posted December 24, 2003 Report Posted December 24, 2003 Cmon guys.. nobody knows ? Here's what it all looks like now : Can't see whats wrong, it is as it used to be... I've tried deleting the entire value and creating it over again, same result... (oh, and ignore the typo in the third shortcut :) The others should show properly despite that) Help ! :D
Guest goinnuts Posted December 29, 2003 Report Posted December 29, 2003 mwille did you find a fix for this as i have the same prob.
Guest mwille Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 Nope, sorry... Perhaps now that this thread is under attention again someone who knows the solution will appear :)
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted January 3, 2004 Report Posted January 3, 2004 hello :) I think you should type just the .lnk's (.lnk) found on your 'Start Menu' folder. Try removing the "Programs" and "PIMS" in the multi-string value and just leave the ".lnk". Maximum of 8 links (i think) then a blank space/line. Something like this... see the blank line/space then the cursor?startmru.JPG
Guest mwille Posted January 3, 2004 Report Posted January 3, 2004 The "programs" etc are my startmenu folders, they always have been like this and the MRU's always displayed correctly like this.. It has stopped doing so only after using the remote regedit tool from the dev kit..
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted January 3, 2004 Report Posted January 3, 2004 the lnks posted above looks the same as the lnks in my Start Menu folder...remember, 8 links, a blank line then the cursor. Try it :wink:mruprob.JPGmru2.jpg
Guest mwille Posted January 3, 2004 Report Posted January 3, 2004 Are you sure you're not talking about the HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Shell/StartMenu key instead of the HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Shell/StartMRU ? The blank line and cursor position don't make any difference in the Most Recently Used icons, I just tried it using only .lnk that are in the rootfolder of my startmenu... Result is unchanged.
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted January 3, 2004 Report Posted January 3, 2004 Are you sure you're not talking about the HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Shell/StartMenu key instead of the HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Shell/StartMRU ? YES. ahh, b'coz you have your links inside another folder (accessories, microsoft etc) i think only .lnk in IPSMWindowsStart Menu directory will be viewed correctly in homscreen MRU (except GamesSolitaire.lnk)my_start_MENU.JPG
Guest mwille Posted January 3, 2004 Report Posted January 3, 2004 i think only .lnk in IPSMWindowsStart Menu directory will be viewed correctly in homscreen MRU (except GamesSolitaire.lnk) Nope, like I said before I have always had my shortcuts in folders and the MRU has always displayed them properly untill now..
Guest D-rated Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 pzee is right I think. I had the same problem, and in fact when I edited the five links in the registry I noticed there was an extra line or two with nothing in it. To fix this, what I did was delete everything after the last line of text for your last link, so in other words the cursor is at the end of the most bottom line when editing the registry. Make sure you press down once or twice to make sure nothing is after the last line. Then hit the blue action key twice (on the MPX) for two 'enters' or 'carriage returns' Then save and exit, and reboot. This worked for me.
