Guest DOOManiac Posted December 24, 2003 Report Posted December 24, 2003 I like the standard home screen on the mpx200, but I'd definately like to tweak certain parts of it. But I'm not too familiar with home screen editing just yet. Specifically I want to change this: - Remove "mMode" icon from top 5 icon list - Replace "AT&T Wireless" (like I'm going to wake up in the morning and forget it) with something more useful, like the current date (since the time is right there on the right) - Remove SMS notifications from the left area (by Email notification) as I don't use SMS - Remove (or at least customize to stuff I want) mMode "quickies" things (Sports, News, Entertainment, Search), if removed put something useful in its place.. I dunno like a logo or something. I dunno whether I need to edit the XML (wherever that is), Registry settings, or what, but I'm pretty sure I could pull all that off if I knew where to look. Anyways, thanks for any help you guys can give! :D
Guest zeta101 Posted December 24, 2003 Report Posted December 24, 2003 dont know what mMode is but im sure someone who does will help. From looking at what you said though, everything you metioned is changable in the default homescreens xml (this is just an file that says where to put the different plugins, for time, sms+email, profile etc what colour scheme to use for everything and so on)... look in IPSM/Application Data/Home, for the homescreen xmls, copy them to your PC and look at them in notepad. someone who is on AT&T will be able to help you out more about the shortcut things. PS. the thing that displays AT&T is called the carrier plugin, and it can be useful, as it tells you if you have no signal at all (it will say "Searching...") since sometimes you can have no bars on your signal but still actually have a signal...
Guest DOOManiac Posted December 24, 2003 Report Posted December 24, 2003 I just checked, and I don't have any XML files in IPSM/Application Data/Home [edit] And yes, all files are shown (not hidden) [/edit] [edit2] Upon looking on the entire smartphone I found 5 XML files with "home.xml" at the end. These have got to be them as they match the home theme names. :) Only thing is, they're in the Windows directory, which if i'm not mistaken is the read only part of the storage, correct? Copy, rename, modify, upload to ipsmapp datahome? [/edit2] Is there a way to modify the carrier plugin to display date rather than service provider name for just that instance? Thanks.

Guest DOOManiac Posted December 25, 2003 Report Posted December 25, 2003 Meh.. I still can't figure it out :(
Guest scott2eyes Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 If you copy one of the [name].home.xml files to your computer, then you can edit it in Notepad. First, change the [name] part of the filename, and the bit at the top of the file itself that says Whatever the name is (so that you can tell the original XML file from your edited one), then save it in the IPSM/Application Data/Home folder. Then, when you go to change your homescreen, the new plugin should appear in the list. In the XML file, the start and end of each plugin is marked with a and tag. Remove the tags and anything between them to remove a plugin (eg- the "carrier" plugin will be what displays "AT&T".) Fiddle around with the bits inbetween to change the way the plugins work. And look at other XML files and try to figure out how their plugins are different, and how that makes them work differently. I think you should be able to do everything you want to by editing the XML file (ie. without having to fiddle with the registry, which is where you can do some damage to your phone), but I'm only familiar with the Motorola/Orange setup, so I could be wrong... Oh, and if you find that your customised homescreen has vanished from the list, then you've (probably) done something wrong with a plugin, which means that the phone doesn't recognise it as a valid homescreen anymore- I find it best to only modify one plugin at a time, and make sure you've got a backup of how it originally looked. (Before I did that, I probably spent more time trying to find out what I've done wrong than anything else...) Hope this helps! :)
Guest grossygrossy Posted January 2, 2004 Report Posted January 2, 2004 Thanks scott2eyes, then save it in the IPSM/Application Data/Home folder. When I save to Home Folder, it saves the file as a txt file. :?:
Guest scott2eyes Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 You mean it's got the".txt" bit at the end of the filename? If you just rename it to MyTheme.home.xml then it should work fine.
