why does orange not want to advertise this phone. i got abuse at work while on a break for playing with my phone and was told to read a book or something, but i was reading a book on the phone

and them i get people telling me i can't watch a full film on it. they have to

watch it for about 20 mins before they belive me. if it was advertised properly l wouldn't get as much grief.

i agree they advertise the phone as been able to browse the net play mp3s and send email etc etc but if they advertised its true capabilitys such as been able to play entire movies and read ebooks etc then it would surely generate more interest from non smartphone users

You may not have noticed that Orange never advertises phones ever...

It also wouldn't be cost beneficial for Orange to do so.

Imagine how many more e200s Orange would have to replace!

But Orange are marketing this phone as an orange phone, like it's something that they have made, rather than selling another companies phone, i.e. Nokia. Because of this maybe they should make a change and advertise their own branded models.

Welcome to the mobile phone market in the UK.

The phone makers (Nokia/Ericsson) market on the basic of "All you need is a Nokia" when the important features are 50% hardware and 50% operating system.

The phone networks advertise saying "All you need is an Orange phone" when 90% of what you get is based on the actual phone you choose.

The phone shops (eg carphone warehouse) advertise saying "All you need is a phone from the carphone warehouse" when 0% of what you get is based on the shop you buy it from.

Go figure...

Now that you mention it Mr Orange, yes :)

yup, gotta agree here, this is effectively an Orange phone, if Orange dont advertise it, who will???????

nokia advertise their handsets, sony, siemens, they all do it, what makes Orange so different if the SPV/E100/E200 is their phone?

sorry, but i dont buy the 'Orange never advertises phones' as a valid argument in this situation, in fact, i'm surprised MS isnt mightily pissed at the fact that it isnt being advertised.

Although MS could help by advertising Windows Mobile OS and products too.

But dont you think they would have done this by now :?: Maybe theres some type of contractual agreement between Orange and Microsoft :?:

but see the fact still remains that a hell of a lot of mobile phone users dont even know what an spv is... i get it all the time when i get my phone out of my pocket my friends who have never seen it are like WOW what the hell its that its well decent i want one?? even people at work who i dont even know if there sat near me at breaktime and i get the phone out you can see them staring out of the corner of there eyes thinking what the hell is that??

now if orange did what all the other phone companys do and advertise there phone on the tv and showed the world what the phone is really capable of then there would surely be a lot of amazed people seriously considering buying 1...i know the tv advertising method has in the past convinced me to buy a sl55 and a t610 so it defintaly works (although maybe only on certain people)?

but the spv never was.. even though it was the first of its kind and would have been of serious interest to a hell of a lot of people

It took a while for the phone to become app-unlocked remember and I doubt Orange would have known its capabilities at that point in time. Of course when that great day arrived where we were able to put Gnuboy on etc - the SPV was nothin gmore than a flashy phone with an MP3 player...not worth the advertsing IMO

yes true but my point is when you see adverts for phones on tv they are designed to grab your attention like the siemens sl55 where they show you it rotating real slow and make it look superb,,

if they did this with the spv/e100 showed you it rotating in all its glory perhaps showed you a movie playing on the screen etc etc etc ,, then all they would have to do is mention windows CE/media player/internet explorer bla bla bla and all the mobile geeks (me included) would be camping outside our local retailers at 6:30 in the morning :)

This is all true and you'd have question why Orange dont advertise alo tmore like they're nearest competitors. I'd be gutted if I didnt know this sort of phone was available in todays market

Exactly just imagine how many people there are that DONT know about the spv/e100/e200 but would buy one if they did :!:

I beg to differ but last year Orange did advise the First SPV ON THE TV. this is what brought my attention to the spv in the first instance.

Were they Moto or Orange adverts though? Only MPx200 ad's i've seen are moto ones...

Guest Lorquis

Aye, I've seen a few MPx ads... but only full page ones in the likes of T3 and Stuff... and they even seem rather microsofty...

Posted

they are pure microsoft with a touch of moto.. ie no 'hellomoto' on them, and large windows bits!

Posted

Probably odds on that they dont want to really advertise to the masses until they finally sort out some of the problems they've been having.

As said earlier all my mates are shocked when I'm playing 'The Office' to them!

True, but the only adverts I've noticed are for the fact that it's got Outlook contacts etc. Clearly aiming more for the executive than the techno-geek market...

I remember Orange Spv adverts in the UK which pictured a man with a pc, fax, tv, stereo and all sorts of electronic gizmo's tapped together on his back, the Idea being that the SPV would (almost) replace the need for all these other things. this is the advert that pointed me to the SPV. Doe's no-one else remember?
