Can a program kill a phone (mpx200)?

My phone died completely last week and I just got the replacement from ATT warranty. I had installed several programs and before I reinstall them I wanted to be sure that they could not have killed the phone.

I had installed:

Pocketmusic

Sim Manager

pocket mini golf

smart explorer

The reason I am scared is just before the phone died I had finished playing some mini golf then played some music with pocket music. Then total phone death.

Advice ?

mini golf is a large install ( 7megs i think). did you install on the phone, and then run out of space? this can cause phone to 'die' until you erase via a hard reset..

Hard reset you ask ? Hah. This is what happened.

I got a message saying sim card failure. Ok, turn the phone off and on. Get stuck at moto screen. Charge battery, reseat sim, turn phone on. Gets stuck at moto screen.

Phone will not turn off. The on/off doesn't do anything at this point.

Pull the battery out. While inserting battery hold down blue button. Hard reset. Gets stuck at moto screen. Do this about 10 times.

Last time, put in battery and nothing. Nada, zip, zilch. Won't even turn on.

I get my replacement, swap out sim and battery. 2 minutes later the world is a better place as my new phone works.

So, I was just wondering if I killed it by accident.

From the problem you are mentioning above, the problem could be your battery. This is talked about in the MPX section of the site.

I took the battery right from the old still not working phone and put it into the new phone and the new one worked right away. I then put it back into the old phone and it still did not work. Not the battery.

Pull the battery out.  While inserting battery hold down blue button.  http://smartphone.MoDaCo.com/viewtopic.php?p=97945#97945>Hard Reset. Gets stuck at moto screen.  Do this about 10 times.

Hard-reset takes time (probably more than 5 minutes are necessary to reformat and re-initialize the flash memory).

Maybe you just did not wait long enough for a hard-reset to complete ?

Now, if the phone couldn't even hard-reset, it was definitely a hardware failure. That can happen, and it's very unlikely the hardware failure was directly caused by a particular application you installed.

Hardware failures happen. The processor just stopped working on one of my Pocket PC's.

I spent the entire day hard resetting. I heard it could take time so I hard reset and went to breakfast. Came back and nothing. Hard Reset and went on a bike ride with the kids. Came back nothing. Hard Reset a few more times and nothing. Hard reset and went drinking. I came back and heard the phone make a noise. I said to the wife who was home watching tv "Is that the phone ? " She said yea " It's been making that noise every 30 minutes or so." 3 hours of drinking and still no mpx200 boot up.

I'm sure you all have the best intentions on trying to figure out what I did wrong but I read every post I could find on the subject and followed all reasonable advice. The dead phone is sitting here on my desk next to the new working one. The new one is using the same battery and sim from the dead one. The dead one won't even turn on.

Commence theorizing.

Either a hardware problem or firmware corruption. Either way, bin/replace it.
