Guest alpmeister Posted December 26, 2003 Report Posted December 26, 2003 Hi, I do apologize for being "newbie" here, but need so much help, not even sure where to start. T Mobile User (with T zones). Wanted MPX200. First, got ATT phone (still have it 4 days later)-THEN bought another on ebay tri band unlocked (cause att was bi-band and i go home to switzerland now and then). got ATT phone unlocked so could use T Mobile. But can't use Explorer or Messenger. Thats when I got other phone (cancelled ATT but still have it at moment.might keep both). I tried to play with settings, etc., but with tri band unlocked can't get messenger working. My goal: messenger to work, internet to work for T Mobile on Tri Band phone. Real new to this, don't understand it all. So please be gentle. Also, was looking to flash, unlock/tri band the ATT phone and keep that one (sell other back on ebay). Any suggestions to anything? If emails are easier: [email protected] Thanks so much for your patience and kindness. Happy Holidays:Michael :)
Guest smeg36 Posted December 26, 2003 Report Posted December 26, 2003 Well, the messenger problem occurs because of the T-Mobile service type. For most things, T-Zones will work fine. I can browse most sites, and check my email with the $4.99 unlimited T-Zones, however I can't send email or sign on to any messenger programs. If you get the $20 unlimited Internet, which is used for PPC's and Notebooks, you can get full web, inlcuding MSN.
Guest alpmeister Posted December 26, 2003 Report Posted December 26, 2003 Thank you for such a speedy reply. I will call T Mobile tomorrow to upgrade to this service. Will I need to change any settings? I hope this is the answer...If it is, I can return ATT phone. That would be wonderful. I got a letter advising that i was upgraded the other month (been with them for 9 years)--T Zones was now free or something. No limit..whatever! So $20 is a big jump, but if it all works, well worth it! Thanks again.
Guest smeg36 Posted December 26, 2003 Report Posted December 26, 2003 Yes, the settings are slightly different. Check out the settings repository on this site for them.
Guest yoos Posted December 26, 2003 Report Posted December 26, 2003 Agile messenger is a FREE messenger program that WILL work with T-Zones. It is compatible with MSN/Hotmail, AOL/AIM, and Yahoo (ICQ too, but people reported problems with that)
Guest alpmeister Posted December 26, 2003 Report Posted December 26, 2003 Thank s again. Should I contact T Mobile by the way and provide IMEI number. They won't mind will they that I have an unlocked phone? (I know=--stupid question, but...I hate trouble!). I will then add the $20 internet package to complete this. Thanks Michael
Guest aristoBrat Posted December 26, 2003 Report Posted December 26, 2003 I've never given T-Mo the IMEI of the unlocked phones I've been using on their network, and I've never run into a problem. Again, if you don't want to buy the $19.99/month full Internet plan, you can use the free Agile Messenger application to connect to the MSN Messenger service using the cheaper (or free) t-zones service. smeg36 -- FWIW, if you change your outgoing email server to "myemail.t-mobile.com", you should be able to send it OK over t-zones.
Guest smeg36 Posted December 26, 2003 Report Posted December 26, 2003 Thanks for the suggestion. I will give it a try later today. As for the Agile Messenger, I have problems trying to connect with it using T-Zones. It says I am connected, but all my buddies are always offline on AIM. Then I will connect on my computer, and many of them are on, and have been for hours. Any idea why this is happening? Thanks.
Guest alpmeister Posted December 26, 2003 Report Posted December 26, 2003 Update and Thanks: Hi! Well, I contacted T Mobile and upgraded to the 19.99$ plan. Gave my IMEI # (no big deal they said) I turned my phone on and changed the GPRS settings Internet is Automatic Everthing else is none. Connects To: The Internet Access Point; internet2.voicestream.com User Name: Password: Primary DNS: 216.155.165.50 Secondary DNS: 216.155.165.51 IP: Thats it--- Turned it on and was able to sign into MSN Mobile Used Hotmail Accounts Used MSN Messenger flawlessly And am very grateful to all who have helped :) Sure, there will be more questions (downloading things into MPX200?) Using the Outlook etc, but that can wait a day :D Kind Regards--Michael
Guest smeg36 Posted December 27, 2003 Report Posted December 27, 2003 I am glad everything is working for you. I wanted to get the $20 internet, but I can't because I don't have any credit yet, so they don't let me give them money. I am not quite sure how that works, but the $5 can do almost everything I want it to, so I guess I am happy with it.
Guest smeg36 Posted December 27, 2003 Report Posted December 27, 2003 So what are you going to be doing with the extra MPx200 you have? I am looking to get one, and have several items + cash I can trade for one if you are interested. Look at my post in the buy/sell forum.
Guest alpmeister Posted December 27, 2003 Report Posted December 27, 2003 Hi New questions....How does one move files from computer to the Mpx200. I figured out how to connect via activesync. But to move like photos and such is the same? using what? thanks Smeg: the 2nd phone I have, ATT is going back under their 30 day policy. I just had to pay whatever usage i had (2 calls about it..). Now that I have the other totally unlocked, Its Tri-Mode, and I tried Agile, works GREAT. AOL, MSN, Yahoo and ICQ?? Wow--what a fun day i had. sadly no work got done..... If you need another phone, you can do as I did on ebay (pricey but I sold my other phone/pda to cover that cost) or if you want ATT Service, they have a great deal with Amazon--free :) After rebates.
Guest smeg36 Posted December 27, 2003 Report Posted December 27, 2003 To transfer files on Activesync, when you are connected you can click on the Explore button. It will bring up a window with all the available folders on you Smartphone. Browse to where you want to files stored, such as SD, then copy them from their location on your computer to the location on your Smartphone. If you are going to be transfering large amounts of data (hundreds of MB), then you may want to look at a reader, such as the Lexar Jumpdrive Treo. It is available at Wal-Mart for $20. It works great for getting movies and such onto my 512 MB SD. I saw the deal on Amazon. Unfortunatly, ATT isn't available in my area. I also want to stick with T-Mobile because of their great internet service. I will probably end up getting one on ebay, but I would have to sell my SPV first, and I hate to be without a smartphone for a week!
Guest alpmeister Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 Hi thanks for that tip. I tried something like that, but got an error. Maybe I did something wrong. It was a wav file and graphics. Want to try some of those spiffy "home pages". I found this guy from Washington State. He delivered as promised at 524$ unlocked tri band. And it works flawlessly with T-Mobile. t-mobile helped me get settings done (it was easier than I thought) then i tried that agile messenger, and wow was i suprised. so much easier than the AOL messenger that i used with other phones. what a pain that stuff was. Now its real time and you can see it. Can you tell how excited I am?? :) Thanks Michael
