Guest xanadu Posted December 27, 2003 Report Posted December 27, 2003 How can I send an anonymous SMS from my SPV ?
Guest ferret Posted December 27, 2003 Report Posted December 27, 2003 I don't think you can unless you start doing some serious phreaking, but I'm usually wrong
Guest xanadu Posted December 27, 2003 Report Posted December 27, 2003 There used to be a site called Retrophone that allowed you to put from any number instead of your own, but that service seems to have ceased. Are there any free web sites that still do this ?
Guest shadamehr Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 Little known fact, but you CAN send anonymous SMS from newer NOKIA phones, to other similar Nokia phones. If your Nokia handset has the facility to send Email over SMS (that is, in the text message options/menus, there is an option to send Email), then you can do this quite cleverly. It is set up so that it is MEANT to work, by you entering the destination email address, and then typing your message, and then sending as an SMS, BUT, using a different, special Message Centre number given by your operator, for Email over SMS. HOWEVER... If you instead, do things a little differently, then you can work around this to send an anonymous sms instead... Choose the option to send the 'Email' (remember, this is email over/via sms - in the phone options, NOT proper email at all). Then, when it asks you the destination email address, INSTEAD enter whatever you like, bearing in mind that THIS that you enter now as the destination email address, will instead be what the other person sees as the sender details (bizarre, but this is what it does). So enter anything at all, such as [email protected] Then enter the text of your message - keep it to around 120 characters now though, as you want to send by sms, and some characters will be used up with the email address. Then, go to send your message, and it will ask you for the MESSAGE CENTRE number for your operator/network for email over sms. INSTEAD, simply enter the mobile number of the person you want to send it to, and then voila! As long as the recipient has a newer Nokia that also allows email over sms, this will arrive at this phone as a normal sms, but the sender details will not show any number, but instead, the email address you entered yourself. Try it yourself and see - send yourself one. Bear in mind that after the first time you do this, the number you sent it to fror the first ever time will then appear already, as the 'message centre number for emails over sms' - so the next time you send one, simply clear this out, and enter the number you want to send it to instead. Finally, to give you an idea of what handsets support this, I don't really mean all that new a Nokia. The 6310, 6310i, and all newer colour Nokias (using the nokia menu system, NOT Symbian) will do this too, so that includes, 6100, 6610, 7210, 7250, 7250i, 5100 etc. The smartphone based ones like 7650, 3650, 6600,N-gage etc, will NOT work, as these have there own full email clients. This might not be exactly what you meant, but I'm SURE its gonna interest a few people who never knew you could do this - especially as according to OFTEL, anonymous SMS is not meant to be permitted in the UK as such.
Guest xanadu Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 The main reason I ask is because my girlfriend has been receiving anonymous SMS from someone, and she wants to know how they can do this and to try and find out who is sending them. Thanks for replys.
Guest ajb3000 Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 Can you see the SMSC number the messages have come from?
Guest aristoBrat Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 maybe she's being blue-jacked? That's my guess too.
Guest ferret Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 What's blue jacking? Sounds nasty. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest aristoBrat Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 It's not so bad. It basically boils down to the fact that a lot of BT phones have BT turned "on" all of the time, so you can zap over stuff to unsuspecting people.
Guest Jasonkruys Posted December 29, 2003 Report Posted December 29, 2003 In the MMS client on the E100, if you go to options, one of them is "Hide Sender". What does that do?
Guest blueflash Posted January 3, 2004 Report Posted January 3, 2004 Sorry but for a while you can use a PC util and dial-up modem to send anon SMS or SMS with fake phone no, I think it was smartSMS or something similar.
Guest kalinte Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 if you send mms using text rather than pics you have the option to hide the sender. tried it once.
Guest Yousaf Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 There is software that allows you to send sms via gprs for both p8/900 and series 60 nokia phones anonamously. You actually even specify a different number or text as to where the message comes from so in effect one can send a message from say a friends number to another friend and it does work. I have the software for the P900 but dont really use it that much its available on handango called i-isms. It would be cool if a similar app for Smartphone could be developed.
