Guest Liz Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 Hi - and hope everyone had a good Christmas: D I’ve found some files on the phone that won’t delete. They got downloaded from Microsoft when I visited the Smartphone club yesterday. I clicked on a free trial of ClearVue and a screen I liked. They were supposed to be sent by email but never arrived (or so I thought). Anyway looking through the programs (in the Windows folder) I’ve found 15 new files dated yesterday and today. 7 are 260kg, 7 are 1.65mb and one at 16.5kb. File names range from MsgQueueMapFileMicrosoftWDP, “Status message” “Raw SMS Protocol” and "evtlogO.bak". I don’t want them, but can’t delete them – I just get an “access denied” message. Any ideas as to how I can get rid of them? Tried via the phone, ActiveSync and turning the phone off. Thanks Liz
Guest PsychoDave Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 Hey :) Have you tried renaming them, then deleteing (maybe after a reboot)? As a last resort there's always a Hard Reset. Best of luck :D
Guest Liz Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 The light dawns! Why didn’t I think of renaming them. #-o …off to try it Not sure about trying a hard set though – Scary! What info do you lose from the phone? Read a post on this and now can’t find it. Phones unlocked and I’ve installed smart explorer and task manager – would I lose those in a hard set? Thanks for help :) Liz
Guest PsychoDave Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 Hard Reset :D It's not as bad as you think  You'll lose basically everything but if you activesync first then you'll get your contacts back straight away then it's a case of de-certing again (can be a pain in the ar*e) and then reinstalling your apps. It's a good idea to backup either via orange backup or dragging your documents/photos/IE favourites/whatever to a safe place on your PC. Once you done a few of them it's a doddle. Clears out all the junk on your phone for a while :) Anyways hopefully it won't come to that :) Cheers
Guest Liz Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 I’ll try renaming them first – bit less taxing on the brain cells ! :) - thanks again Liz
Guest Liz Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 Noooop!! Renaming them didn’t work. Still got um…..dates changed on them all to todays date as well… :? Might have to go for the hard set if no one has any other ideas? Really don’t want to do that hard set business stuff 8-[ – had some problems with Orange and my internet/mail settings as it is. Thanks for trying! Liz
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 MsgQueue files are not to be deleted, and because they are in the main Windows directory are part of the ROM they cannot be deleted anyway :) don't worry about the size of the files as they are being read incorrectly by the system also these file are not new, you have always had them. The probable reason they have been dated today etc is that on every start up of the phone the entire main Windows folder gets rewritten.
Guest Liz Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 Thanks Anwarner :) – I’d best stop messing with them then! Liz
