They're not too powerful for the SPV processor to handle - even the original SPV runs an ARM9 based CPU at 133Mhz as opposed to the ARM9 at 104Mhz in the Series 60 devices (3650, 7650, etc). Though if you're talking about the N-Gage, that may have 3D hardware that make it faster at 3D graphics than our SPVs.

It's just that they run different operating systems, with different hardware, so they won't run at all. It's like trying to get a Gamecube game to play in a Playstation 2.

The SPV CPU isn't powerful enough to *emulate* the N-Gage, but then the N-Gage isn't powerful enough to emulate the SPV :).

There are plenty of good games out there for the SPV though ... with more coming (just check out midnights posts and the port of Quake that's coming along nicely ... ).

Hope that helps,

DCDGM,

the Java prog that was inadvertantly released by Mitac works on the smartphones OK, but why waste the space? I also use Nokia phones day to day and I have *YET* to find a Java app of any kind that is worth keeping on my phone. Any app that is JAVA that is any good, is out or will be released as a real app for the smartphone.

When I got my first JAVA phone, I found every JAVA download site on the web and downloaded everything they had, even if I thought I already had it. I then tried every game, every app and THEY ALL SUCKED. I think Tetris is the only thing I play now (and Nokia's Bounce).

Now if they came out with an N-Gage emulator for the Smartphone, you would have something worth "wasting" space for.

:D Mophun for smartphone! Cool.

IMHO As a games dev platform goes it's better than Java!

Still, most of the games you see on cartridges for N-Gage are written in C++ and then compiled for the Symbian OS. So far (unless you're willing to get dirty with assembly) the games the really need to push the hardware and make use of platform-specific advantages will most likely be written in C++, coded specifically for that platform.

Hang on - there isn't any info on the Smartphone on the Mophun website? Maybe they plan to provide it soon .. or maybe msnmobiles got it wrong? After all they did say that java and .NET are available for smartphones when in reality the first is illegal and (I've heard) very slow, and the second is only available in a few models at the moment.

Hopefully it does come out though :)
